4. COURSE ASSESSMENT
The attainment of a CLO is judged through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) mentioned in Table 5 on
the basis of the average score of all the students obtained in respective CLO .
8
Direct assessment of attainment of course learning outcomes considers quizzes, presentation,
assignments, midterm and final exam done by students during the whole semester.
Table 6 indicates the CLO based marks distribution for direct assessment of students in IE362 Power
Electronics. Both the Theory and Lab work are shown with their respective CLO based marks distribution
mapped over the respective PLO.

TOTAL = 40 + 60 + 50 =150
Subsequently each student is assessed on the basis of marks obtained in each CLO and the average
score of the class is determined. The attainment of CLOs of IE362 Power Electronics is shown in Table 7
which also reflects the achievement of PLO 2 and 3. The remarks indicates the level of attainment
evaluated using the KPIs.

Indirect assessment of CLOs is carried out using students’ feedback survey form, which is collected at the
end of semester. The feedback is collected on attainment of every CLO through selection of a defined
rubric.. On the basis of assigned weights to each selection, the average score in each CLO of the course is
found and compared with the KPIs for indirect assessment of Table 5.
The snapshot of the summary of students’ feedback form of IE-362 Power Electronics is shown in Fig 2 as
below
The Indirect assessment not only indicates the attainment of CLOs of respective course but also the
achievements of mapped PLOs. Results of Fig 2 are reproduced in Table 8 as
10
Table 8: CLO and PLO attainment through Indirect Assessment
AVG Score % 73 75 74
The Direct and Indirect assessment of students in course IE362 Power Electronics indicates a gap of
around % as shown in Table 9. It is expected that the gap would reduce on maturity of an OBE system
implementation at IIEE in forthcoming years.
Students are encouraged to overcome their deficiencies and do not limit themselves to class room
learning. Measures are being taken in current Fall 2018-19 semesters to improve their analytical and
designing attributes through open ended assignment essential to foster Complex Problem Solving skills.
To build familiarity to OBE system, CPD activities are also planned for undergraduates to cope up with
new teaching, learning and assessment methodologies.
