Letter to the Readers

Hello dearest readers!

Good day to all of us!

Hope you all doing okay these days because we are all graduating students of

Bicol College High School and hope all of us will graduate. Before we all graduate, we with

struggles to achieve our goals as students. There comes so many assignments, projects to be pass

soon, activities at school just like this work immersion.

This is very important to have this work immersion because we go outside our school to

learn new things or lesson in working with others. We not just work outside but we also meet

other people and know how they cope up with what they are doing and why they are doing those

things. Work immersion doesn’t mean you will work with others just to passed our activities at

school but we do this to mingle and learn about them. We learn by working by the help of other

people and we do this not by listening to them just like we do inside our classroom but we will

listen to them to do what we need to do and help them lessen their works.

Work immersion also helps us to know how businesses or a worker do to be more

productive or successful with their doings. This activity of school help us to put our learnings at

school in real situations.

Acknowledgement

We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to the following people who are

willingly helped us in accomplishing our Work Immersion and generously contributed to the

success on this endeavor. The skills and knowledge which we have gained throughout our

practical training we perceive a very valuable component in our future career development. As

you know Work Immersion is an important part of the academic curriculum because this is

where the students are being exposed to the real life scenario he/she will be facing, once she/he

graduated from the studies.

A special thanks to Mrs. Maricar T. Magcalen a senior high school coordinator and Ms.

Julie Ann M. Carreon a work immersion coordinator and teacher who gave the permission to

have these Work Immersion as a major requirements. The memory of their lessons make us

smile every time we are applying them in our task. The lessons we learned from them helped a

lot in performing our job efficiently.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr. Van Lorena who was the admin of

PrimeWater Daraga for their generous support, coaching and companionship during our Work

Immersion. They shared their expertise with us generously and we have learned a lot from them.

Our thanks and appreciation also to the HR staff mainly to Ms. Jennica Balde for willingly help

us, and to the other PrimeWater employee that make our immersion days efficient. Above all we

are happy to have your good companionship.

We are very much thankful and grateful because we learned so much with this activity.

We not just enjoy but we also met other people outside the school. All our learnings here inside

our classroom are all applied in our work immersion activity. We spend too much but exchange

of it is the learnings that many said that no one can buy.

Introduction

Work Immersion is a part of the Senior High School (Grade 11 at 12) Curriculum that has

80 hours and includes actual works or “hands on” experience for enhancing the student’s skill

and capabilities. It could be a total comparison for a real job or ‘simulated’.

Work immersion is a key feature in the Senior High School curriculum and refers to the

part of that consists of 80 hours of hands-on experience or work simulation which Grade 12

students will undergo to expose them to the actual work setting and to enrich the competencies

provided by the school. With the four exits envisioned for SHS graduates namely, higher

education, entrepreneurship, employment or middle-level skills development the first batch of

Grade 12 learners are expected to become full-fledged contributors to the social development

and nation-building. Work immersion is a key subject under the SHS curriculum that is

conducted in different ways and time frame as needed by SHS learners. The subject provides

learners with opportunities to become familiar with the workplace; for employment simulation,

and to apply their competencies in areas of specialization/applied subjects in authentic work

environment. The said learning experience that the students can get from it will surely enable and

help students as they familiarize themselves with the workplace simulation and apply their

competencies in their particular areas. The completion of work immersion is a prerequisite to

graduation under the K-12 program. It aims to hone globally competitive citizens, with its

specialized curriculum, gearing Filipino students for further studies, employment or

entrepreneurship. Experience is considered to be one of life’s greatest teachers. As trainees, we

can use it as a motivation as we gain expertise in our respective fields. This experience will

surely help us not only for our life as students but also our future job as professional employees

of the country.

Work immersion of Senior High school Students One of the concerns of the

implementation of the K to 12 curriculum is that, are the students will be what the government

and themselves expects them to be? Will they be competent to their respective field of interests

and will they be skillful and knowledgeable enough to help suffice the economic needs of the

Philippines especially in the manpower field. The government comes up to implementing work
immersion that will be conducted depending on what the learners’ purposes or needs. And before

further discussing, I totally agree on this stand for it will be one of the key practices on

improving student performances. So, what is work immersion? It is a work simulation, or how

other students in their comfort called it as “OJT” that consists of 80hrs basic time allotment up t

p 320hrs maximum time for grades 11 and 12 students. Through this, the students will become

familiar with work- related environment related to their field of specialization to enhance their

competence. Education secretary Leonor Briones said that "we should start training our SHS

students in the actual field of work to enhance their competency early" On the other hand, future

successes of the work immersion program also have flaws like the fact that our country had a lot

of experience with on-the-job training programs on the collegiate level. Unfortunately, many (if

not most) college OJT students are assigned only to insignificant jobs in a company (answering

the phone, making photocopies, making coffee that sort of thing). Rarely are OJT students

expected to produce the same products that regular employees produce. If that’s the case, how

are these students going to learn prior to their expectation with these experts that are going to

teach them to be future professionals. Immersion in SHS will be useless if it is patterned after

most of the OJT experiences currently being undertaken by college students. But, there is a

solution simple enough to end this dilemma if that’s how we call it. And that is to involve the

companies and not just the schools for them to be aware of the educational objectives of the K to

12. To conclude my stand, work immersion is a solid matter in terms of enhancing the learners’

skills and discipline not only for self improvement but also for the betterment of his/ her future

company that is because the student will be able to asses himself early inside the company during

the immersion period and will be used to it. They will know about the work ethics, will gain

knowledge about the safety in the workplace, the rights, responsibilities, learning the effective

way to resolve conflicts among coworkers and the work will not be that hard for them if they

apply at the same or related company in the future.

Work Immersion Objectives

 You will be learn about how a business helps our country and economy.

 Know their strengths and weaknesses

 How they manage their profits over their personal needs and other expenses

 What is their purpose in making their own business

 What you can apply to it and improved your own perspective when it comes of

working and making your own business.

Duration and Place of Work Immersion

The duration of work immersion is when you finished 80 hours in their business. It is

equal to 10 days staying there for helping them lessen their works. In case of emergency, you can

give an excused letter that is legit and it is not counted with your working hours, but you will be

working with it. You can be late but if possible, don’t be absent. The place where we work is in

St. Maria Street Daraga Albay, the PrimeWater Daraga. The employees are mostly doing office

works like printing, scanning and rearranging the documents of maintenance order. The place is

near Daraga Church and surrounded by houses who has their own businesses too but only small

businesses like Canteen. It is wide space. It has a three floor. The first floor is the Billing,

Customer service and IT department, the second floor is the HR and where is Mr. Van Loreno’s

office located and lastly the third floor is the accounting department.

History of PrimeWater Daraga

Since its birth on October 01, 1981, each step was an agony. Each breath was a gape.

Each move was a struggle. Its difficulties were mostly attributed to scanty resources including

facilities and manpower, aggravated by phenomenal maladies and year-bound disasters I.e.

typhoons, floods and worse, volcanic eruptions. Susceptibility to these calamities was high since

its sources then were all at the foot of the volcano. Floods and typhoons wash out transmission

mains within the area while volcanic debris (during eruptions) bury further these same lines

causing complete water supply interruption.

And these were but challenges to DAWD. These served as grease to its wheels and sure

kept it going. These have made the stone rolling that even though it gathered no moss it gained

certain polish.

In the long run, DAWD has made its posts firm and vibrant. From the Presidential

Decree198 which is its source of authority and power to form and maintain water district,

DAWD has become one stable corporation that is self-reliant and continuously thriving.

By virtue of a resolution enacted by the Sangguniang Bayan, Daraga Water District came

into existence towards the goals called for by the PD 198. it was until the District was granted a

Conditional Certificate of Conformance (CCC) with No. 172, that existing facilities of the now

defunct Albay Provincial Waterworks were turned over.

Mission

As an independent and self-sustaining public entity, it aims to promote, mange, and

regulate a water supply system operating within its territorial boundaries, according to its

capability and competence, and in harmony with nature, by providing the members of the

community with the proper distribution and allocation of potable water supply.

Vision

We envision to provide 100% water supply requirements to all the people of Daraga.
Goals

The Daraga Water District is committed to:

1. Provide its concessionaires with dependable and affordable potable water supply daily.

2. Promote full customers’ satisfaction;

3. Uphold and preserve a high standard of public service;

4. Maintain and sustain financial viability.

Objectives

A. Operational

1. To set up major plan for the development and implementation of its program through:

2. The adoption of effective and systematic organizational operational mechanisms;

3. The introduction and application of latest technologies and;

4. The use of scientific and other innovative approaches.

B. Financial

1. To attain the goals not exceeding the limited resources available by prioritizing its

immediate needs without adversely affecting the financial viability and standing in

meeting different monetary and other pecuniary obligations.

C. Institutional

1. To sustain and maintain a high standard of service.

2. To accomplish the programs to the fullest with less cost at stake, but having due regard

to time, the methods of their accomplishments, and quality of service and personnel’s

performance.

3. To attain the level of expectancy not only of the consuming public, but as well of other

government agencies, and as other water district would expect.

D. Social

1. To create and promote employment opportunities as a means to improve the quality of

life of the people.

2. To attain the trust and confidence of the concessionaires and of the general public as

well in order to be a model institution of the government in the field.

“It is when it all begins”

February 11, 2020 Tuesday

We were all excited and a bit nervous on our first day of work immersion. We arrived

around 9:00 in the morning and we received a warm welcome from the Primewater admin and

employees. We introduced ourselves to everyone and the admin of the PrimeWater told us a brief

history of their company. After the introduction, he asked each one of us what course we will be

taking up in college. Using that, he assigned us in different department. Some of us were

assigned in Customer Service, HR Department, IT Department and Billing Department. We

started working the light works that were given to us since it is our first day and we’re new in

this field. We we’re adjusting on our first day. One of us were assigned to collect our resume and

application form since she want to become an HR in the future, some of us where tasked to pile

the documents, make a photocopy of the important documents, sort the files, glued the receipt

and teared the paper. We realized that their work needs a patience especially to those customers

who are hot-tempered. We noticed that a lot of customers are paying their bills and having

complaints every day. We realized that not because they are in office, their work would be easy.
“A birthday to celebrate”

February 12, 2020 Wednesday

It’s our second day! Since this is our second day we came as early as our arrival

yesterday. Early in the morning, Faith, Gramiela, Carlo and Jezreel who are in the HR

department was tasked to an excel presentation on how they will welcome a guest from manila or

other country and how they will accommodate and handle a guest while Shan, Irish, Ralph and

Alex who are designated in customer service was tasked to do some photocopy, scanning and

piling documents. Lyricia was tasked to encode previous transaction of their company and Carla

was assigned to check the balance of the previous customer. Carlo and Jezreel was also tasked to

calibrate and paint some water meter. And in the afternoon, an employee celebrated her birthday.

They made a simple celebration. Everyone gather to wish her happy birthday. They bought

pancit, bread, puto and of course drinks which is coke and royal. We were very happy because

that time we are so drained from working hard. And of course after eating we made sure to clean

up. We, the girls insist on washing the dishes and the boys insist on throwing the garbage. We

realized that sometimes we need to unwind in order to function properly.

“Paper works for you”

February 13, 2020 Thursday

Hoorayyyy! It’s our third day. Times flies too fast. We were early again! This time Faith

and Gramiela was tasked to do their own business plan/proposal. Ms. Jennica showed them an

example proposal she made in PrimeWater. They used it as their guide. Carlo and Jezreel was

assigned again of a calibration of the water meter. We, who are in the first floor, we’re tasked to

cut and paste the receipts. Lyricia continue her unfinished work yesterday the same thing with

Ralph and Alex. Carla was assigned to encode and paste the receipts. We realized that doing

simple things make us grow and who we want to be.

“Valentines but has no Valentine”

February 14, 2020 Friday

It’s Valentines Day! This was a happy day! Everything seems to be good. We were all

excited since this is our last day in this week. Since yesterday, Gramiela and Faith was tasked to

make a business plan, today they defended their business plan for it to be accepted. Carlo and

Jezreel continued their unfinished work yesterday but in the afternoon, they had a problem with

the higher personnel who usually uses the calibration room. Carla was asked to cut the bond

papers and paste the receipts. Shan and Irish was assigned to arrange the job orders and make a

front page of it while Ralph and Alex was tasked to scan a lot of documents. Lyricia as usual

encoding the previous transaction of PrimeWater. All of us are very tired but minutes have

passed ma’am Jhem treated us cornettos and we became energetic again. Simple things are big

help. Appreciate the simple things.

“Back to the Basics”

February 17, 2020 Monday

Today we finally adjust. This is our fifth day in our work immersion. Carlo and Jezreel

continued their work yesterday while Faith and Gramiela was tasked to paste the receipts given

by Ate Rose. Those who are in the first floor, was tasked to sort, pile and arrange the documents

given by Ma’am She and Sir Chriz. Carla continue her work which is to paste the receipts. On

the other hand Lyricia got another transaction to encode. Our classmates who are in the second

floor helped us to arrange the documents. After we finished the given task we use our remaining

time in scrolling our phones. Working together means work would be finish as earlier as

expected.
“You got friends to help”

February 18, 2020 Tuesday

Day have passed and this is our sixth day! We have four days left and we learned a lots of

lessons from them. From the scratch up to the big things. All of us was tasked to glue the receipts

except of Lyricia who is busy of encoding the previous transaction of the PrimeWater. Gramiela

was also asked to encode some files about the ending of employment and asked them to compute

the years, months and days of the employees who resign in the company. And then they helped

our classmates who are busy to cut and glue the receipts. Carla was also assigned to arrange and

separate the blue, pink and white receipts. We are super tired but we finished it because we have

friends who can help us. We had a little chitchat since we finished it early. Having friends is

really good. Sometimes we need to have a shoulder to lean on.

“As usual”

February 19, 2020 Wednesday

We aren’t early as yesterday but there’s no late. This is a boring day for us because we

just glue all day. Faith, Gramiela, Carlo and Jezreel resumed their work yesterday. Faith and

Gramiela made a front cover for all the done receipts while who are in first floor are piling,

sorting and scanning the documents given by Ma’am She and Sir Chriz. As usual Carla was

assigned to glue the receipt and Lyricia continued to encode.

“Nothing new”

February 20, 2020 Thursday

Most of us are doing the same thing which is to glue/paste the receipts. We are all

devastated on what we are doing but we have left no choice so we did what they told us to do.

On the other hand, Carla was given a task in the afternoon which is to scan and rename the file of

maintenance order and meter reader. Lyricia is doing the same thing as yesterday. There’s

nothing new in our work today. We don’t have a new learnings. Be patient in working.
“Thanks God its Friday”

February 21, 2020 Friday

Last day of the week. We are all excited because this is our 9th day but we already

expected what is waiting to us inside. As usual we need to glue/paste the receipt. We keep on

asking ourselves “why is it needed to be glued?”. It is their previous collection and the year of

the receipt is 2017 which is very old. We keep on telling ourselves that we need to have a little

patience because we are on the 9th day of our work immersion. Carla was given a new task in the

afternoon which is to check the customer payment. We need to have a long patience because

work will not adjust for us.

“It is time to say goodbye”

February 24, 2020 Monday

This is our last day and we are very happy. We are done in our work immersion so it

means we can go back to our normal lives which is the half day class and 9:00 am class. But in

the end we feel sad because we already build a new friendship in the PrimeWater. They were

very kind to us. They didn’t scolded us when using phone, as long as we do our assigned task.

They made a simple celebration because this is our last day and we are happy knowing that their

wage isn’t enough for their family still they gave us a simple celebration. A little effort but we

appreciated it so much. Everything has an end so treasure every moment.

Observation and Insights

A.

Our work place in PrimeWater are separated in many departments. There are students

assigned in Costumer Service, Monitoring Department, I.T Department. In Costumer Service,

students handle to job of sorting out and organizing the paper works done by the employees and

preparing everything that are needed in the work place. They sometimes scan files, print

documents, sort out documents, and assist the employees in their job. In Monitoring Department,

their job is to monitor and make sure that everyone are doing their job properly and to make sure

that the students are always on time. They also give a helping hand to the other departments to

lessen the work load of the students. In the I.T Department, it is them that takes care of the

computer stuff. The students assigned in the I.T Department mostly type, print, and check

documents. They sometimes help other departments such as Costumer Service if they have free

time.

B.

Being able to work in PrimeWater made us realize that it is very hard to do the things that

the employees are doing. Though we, the students only do mostly the minor jobs, it is still hard

to keep with the work load because there are paper works that needs to be handled every single

day. During out time in PrimeWater, we can tell that the employees are doing their best to do

their job. You must always be attentive and alert because you need to assist or support the

employees anytime to fasten and lessen the workload. Each work place has everything it needs to

function properly; enough man power, equipment’s, tools, and cleanliness of the workplace.

They even provide alcohol for you to use in the entrance, it is clear that PrimeWater cares for its

employees and to prevent anyone for getting sick.

Overall Reflection and self-appraisal

During our work experience at Daraga Water District Primewater, we was fortunate

enough to have experienced firsthand and learned, many different sides of what goes into a

project, the general process of how a project is initially planned, developed and completed; as

well as how much work and detail goes into every stage. Another valuable lesson we have

learned during these 2 weeks, were the many different types of work an regular employee has to

perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and

responsibilities that we could perform, as a employee in a company, an accountant, financial

manager and HR of the company. Reflecting back to our first day at Primewater, it was one of

the most memorable days of our time at work. We are all excited at working. After being

introduced to everyone, we was handed a tender to work on.

During the first week of work completing the tender, I was overwhelmed by the work and

the responsibilities that were placed on us, but with the help of our supervisors and the directors,

who have had years of experience in the industry, we felt more confident and supported as we

knew our work would be double checked and any uncertainties were explained. By observing

and learning from them, we managed to pick up tips and learned different types of skills, from

learning to communicate and deal with other companies, to reading and deciphering many

different types of plans. We were proud to ourselves because we make it till the end even that we

are so bored and tired.
