1.0 INTRODUCTION

Under the scope of work for Projek Pembaikan Cerun Dan Ker-Kerja Berkaitan Di
Sekolah Kebangsaan St Aloysius, Penampang, Sabah Contract No.:
JKR/IP/CKC/218/2019, Earthwall and its associated works need to be carried out.

2.0 OBJECTIVE

The Earthwall work to be carried out shall be in accordance with the requirements of the
specification and drawings.

3.0 WORKS METHODOLOGY

3.1 Preparation Stage

a) Setting Out shall be carried out based on reference points on site by survey or
shown in the drawings.

b) Borrow earth material shall be tested in accordance with the specification and
approved by the SO prior to commencement of work.

c) Tests to be carried out on borrow earth material before approval shall include
Atterberg limits, Modified Proctor (4.5kg hammer), and organic content as
specified in the specifications.

3.2 Construction Procedure

a) For the first floor, a concrete wall (600mm height, 200mm wide) will be built for
supporting the embankment to be constructed. There will be a Weep Hole in
between the centre to centre of the aggregate (20mm) and it will be wrapped
around by the Geotextile (TS80) to prevent soil enter the surface of the Weep
Hole.

b) Using BRC A8 which is manually bended 75 with the length of the base is
500mm and the bended is 120mm while the curve is 300mm. This is used for the
upper layer of the Earthwall. The BRCA8 is filled with topsoil with the height of
600mm.

c) Behind the topsoil is filled with Earthfill with the height of 600mm.

d) Behind the Granular is filled with fine aggregate (200mm), every layer is wrapped
with Geotextile PET100, the earthwall is covered with Geotextile TS80.

e) Where existing material is found to be unsuitable, the attention of S.O shall be


drawn to enable him to inspect and give his decision.

f) Maximum 550 mm thick (compacted) of a suitable backfill material is placed for


the first layer from the stockpile area / borrow pit and to be compacted by using
Roller Compactor.

g) The sloping ground (existing slope embankment) shall be benched, with the
maximum vertical height of each bench not exceeding 900mm.

h) After leaving to the required level and gradient, proper compaction shall be
carried out to achieve at least 90% maximum dry density (MDD) compaction.

i) Field density test (FDT) is carried out for each layer of earth continuously
compacted in order to determine percentage of compaction achieved.

j) Woven Geotextile, Perforated PVC Pipe, Sand Bag, BRC A6 and Sand blanket
(with Non-Woven Geotextile) to be installed as per shown in construction
drawing.

k) Once filling works completed, joint survey shall be carried out to ensure the
required level is as per construction drawing.

4.0 HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENT

4.1 Health & Safety Requirement

4.1.1 All personnel involve with the event shall have;


a) Compulsory to provide and wearing Personal Protective Equipment
(PPE) at all times during commencement of works at site;

(i) Safety vest.


(ii) Safety shoes.
(iii) Safety helmet (if required).

4.1.2 Housekeeping need to maintain at all time.

5.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE & CONTROL REQUIREMENT

The quality assurance & control requirements shall be in accordance with this method
statement. In carrying this works the following documents & forms and procedures shall
be implemented before commencement of work;

(i) Request for Inspection (RFI) form.


(ii) Inspection Checklist.

6.0 PLANT, MACHINERY AND EQUIPMENT


The equipment involved in the Embankment Filling (but not limited to), according to type
and suitability: -

7.0 MANPOWER – KEY PERSONNEL

9.0 REFERENCES
The work is carried out in accordance to the following: -
(i) Bill of Quantities.
(ii) Project Specification.
(iii) Approved Project Construction Drawing.

10.0 REQUEST FOR INSPECTIONS


The Contractor shall submit the request for work inspection (RFI) form to the Engineer,
or his representative with all the relevant attachment, to allow inspection being
conducted before any subsequent work start.
