Digital Power Line of Business has the pleasure to announce new

functionalities for the Easergy P5 protection relays available in August 2020.

1. Executive summary for Aug 2020 release.

This release contains new hardware components and new firmware options.
• A new power supply range is available for Easergy P5x30 models.
• Two new, optional boards are introduced
o Increasing input/output density and enabling motor speed detection
o Enabling direct control of medium voltage equipment.
• This release brings more accurate time synchronisation with Precision-Time-Protocol compliant to IEEE
1588 v2 standard.
• Our IEC 61850 capabilities are enriched with file and setting group services.
• New protection and automation capabilities have been enhanced with new motor protection functions.
• 6 new language options.
• In line with Schneider Electric’s continuous improvement attitude, in this release cybersecurity has been
improved and now has an Achilles Level 2 certificate.

2. What’s new?

24-48 Vdc power supply module Easergy P5F30 and P5M30 can now be ordered with a 24-48 Vdc power
for Easergy P5x30 supply module which allows the powering of the relay from a 24 Vdc
auxiliary power supply.

12DI / 4DO board All Easergy P5 relays can be now equipped with an optional board of 12
digital inputs and 4 digital outputs. This board is designed for signalling
purposes. One of the inputs (DI1) has a high-speed counter allowing
direct motor speed detection in motor applications. DI1 can also be used
as a universal input in other applications. With this board P5x20 models
can now have a maximum of 16 inputs / 7 outputs + WD and P5x30
models can have a maximum of 40 inputs / 15 outputs + WD.

5DI / 5DO board All Easergy P5 relays can be now equipped with an optional board of 5
digital inputs and 5 digital outputs. This board is designed for control
purposes and offers 3 control output relays and 2 high-speed, high-break
output relays.

Precision-Time-Protocol Easergy P5 can be now configured to be compatible with PTP IEEE1588

V2 supported systems. To implement PTP time synchronization,
Easergy P5 must be equipped with the PRP/HSR communication module
and connected to an Ethernet network with a valid PTP master.

IEC 61850 improvement File and setting group services are now available.

Motor speed detection Direct motor speed detection is now possible if Easergy P5 is equipped
with 12DI / 4DO board Using DI 1.

Motor overspeed protection New ANSI 12 protection function which detects racing when the motor is
driven by the load, or a loss of synchronization for synchronous motors, or
for process monitoring. This function is available when Easergy P5 is
equipped with 12DI / 4 DO board using the motor speed detection input.

Motor underspeed protection New ANSI 14 protection function can detect the slow-down of motor
speed after motor starting, possibly resulting from mechanical overloads
or locked rotor. This function is available when Easergy P5 is equipped
with 12 DI / 4 DO board using the motor speed detection input.

Motor anti-backspin protection New ABS protection function is used for motors with high inertia, to detect
when the rotor has completely stopped, to allow re-starting of the motor.

LPCT + VT scheme Easergy P5U20, P5F30 or P5M30 equipped with LPCT/LPVT measuring
module can now be connected to conventional VTs using the voltage
adaptor (reference EMS59572). Available connection modes: 3 phase-to-
neutral voltages, 2 line-to-line voltages, 1 additional line-to-line voltage,
open delta connection.

Logic output timers Easergy P5 protection relay logic function can be used to manage
accurate breaker control and alarms with higher flexibility thanks to the
logic timer feature. Logic timers offer the possibility of assigning a freely
configurable time characteristic to each output signal of the logic
equations.

New languages available Easergy P5 relay can now be ordered with 6 new languages for HMI:
Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian and Traditional Chinese.

Slot configuration rules Easergy P5 with new optional input/output boards must be configured
respecting slot configuration rules. The Product Selector and User Guide
are updated to exclude the selection of forbidden configuration.
