OB Bag Equipment

The Public Health Bag


 It is an essential and indispensable Equipment of a public Health
nurse which she has to carry along during her home visits.
 It contains basic medications and articles which is necessary for
giving care.
Purpose of Bag Techniques
1. To carry out nursing procedure in Home.
2. To carried the necessary articles in the bags. and to performing minor
dressing.
3. To conduct delivery in emergency situations.
4. To do assessment of the different community people like newborn, infant,
toddler, preschool, school-going, adolescence and adults.
5. To check the temperature, and vital signs.
6. To do the collection and transportation of sample.
7. To treat minor ailments., and to practice the Family planning services.
8. Serve as a first aid kit, and to conserve time and energy.
9. To work efficiently and rapidly during techniques.
10.To render effective nursing care due to clients and/or members of the
family during home visits.

Apron
 Aprons are also included as part of healthcare workers personal
protective equipment regulations. They recommend that single use
disposable aprons, or gowns, must be worn based on risk
assessment when there is a risk that healthcare workers clothing
may become exposed to blood, body fluids, secretions and
excretions.

Hand Towel
 a hand towel is used to dry off the face and hands after washing
them. They are kept in the house for this particular reason- to use to
dry off the hands and face. These hand towels are made of 100%
cotton and usually have a smooth finish

Soap in a soap Dish


 A soap dish is a shallow, open container or platform where a bar of
soap may be placed to dry after use.

Thermometer (Digital and Surgical)


 to assess the client’s health condition through body temperature
reading
 A thermometer is used in health care to measure and monitor body
temperature. In an office, hospital or other health care facility, it
allows a caregiver to record a baseline temperature when a patient
is admitted. Repeated measurements of temperature are useful to
detect deviations from normal levels.

2 pairs of Scissors (surgical and bandage)


 Bandage scissors are used for cutting medical gauze, dressings,
bandages and others. Nurses need to have these in their pockets for
emergency use, especially for wound care.
2 pairs of Forceps (curved and straight)
 Forceps are used when fingers are too large to grasp small objects or
when many objects need to be held at one time while the hands are
used to perform a task. The term "forceps" is used almost
exclusively within the medical field.

Disposable Syringes with Needles (g. 23 & 25)


 Disposable syringe are most commonly used for the extraction of
blood as it is an essential part to diagnose any disease of the patient
with the help of sample collecting (blood test) from the body of the
patient. These syringes are used to avoid the risk of infection from
one patient to another.

Hypodermic Needles (g. 19,22,23,25)


 A hypodermic needle is a hollow needle commonly used with a
syringe to inject substances into the body or extract fluids from it.
They may also be used to take liquid samples from the body.

Sterile Dressing
 A dressing is any sterile material used to cover a wound. A sterile
dressing is used to:
(1) Protect the wound from bacteria in the environment.
(2) Protect the environment from bacteria in the wound.

Cotton balls (dry and clean with alcohol)


 cotton pads are pads made of cotton which are used for medical or
cosmetic purposes. For medical purposes, cotton pads are used to
stop or prevent bleeding from minor punctures such as injections or
venipuncture. They may be secured in place with tape.

Cord Clamp
 The umbilical cord clamp is a medical device used to hold the cord in
place when the cut (surgery) is made, and the clamp may stay on for
several days while the remaining cord attached to the baby dries.

Micropore Plaster
 Micropore tape is a paper tape used to dress wounds and secure
medical tubing. It is also commonly recommended to minimize post-
surgical scar formation. Micropore tape allows skin to breathe while
protecting the area from stenting. Stenting pulls the wound in a way
that can cause thick scars to develop.

Tape Measure
 Micropore tape is also important and should be readily available, for
example, when your patient accidentally pulls his/her IV.

1 Pair of Sterile Gloves


 Gloves should be worn when there may be exposure to blood,
bodily fluids, secretions or excretions and when handling
contaminated equipment. Gloves should also be worn when patients
require transmission based precautions (insert link to TBP).
Increased awareness among healthcare workers of the potential for
gloves to provide protection against various pathogenic
microorganisms, has led to the increased use of gloves in health
care.

Baby’s Scale
 baby weighing scale is used during this process to weigh the new-
born to give their birth-weight. The baby is then continuously
weighed and monitored throughout their growth to ensure that
weight changes are within the norm.

Alcohol Lamp
 An alcohol lamp is used for heating, sterilization, and combustion in
a laboratory. The alcohol lamp uses ethyl alcohol or spirit as a fuel.
It can be made from brass, glass, stainless steel or Aluminium.

2 Test tubes
 Test tubes are widely used by chemists to handle chemicals,
especially for qualitative experiments and assays. Their spherical
bottom and vertical sides reduce mass loss when pouring, make
them easier to wash out, and allow convenient monitoring of the
contents.

Test tube holders


 A test tube holder is used to hold test tubes. It is used for holding a
test tube in place when the tube is hot or should not be touched. For
example, a test tube holder can be used to hold a test tube while it
is being heated.

Stethoscope
 This is one of the most important tools of the trade. Nurses use this
tool to listen to things such as the heart, veins, and intestines to
make sure proper function

Solutions of :
Betadine
 A topical antiseptic cream that helps provide infection protection
against a variety of germs that can cause infection in minor cuts,
scrapes and burns.
70% Alcohol
 The important thing is that only 70% solution of isopropyl alcohol
acts as a disinfectant killing all surface microorganisms. It is used to
disinfect hands and equipment surface in pharmaceuticals. 70 %
isopropyl alcohol solution kills microorganisms by dissolving plasma
membrane of the cell wall.
Zephiran Solution

Hydrogen Peroxide
 Hydrogen Peroxide is a mild antiseptic used on the skin to prevent
infection of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns.
Spirit of Ammonia
 It is used to prevent or treat fainting. Fainting may be caused by an
unpleasant or stressful event, or by a serious problem such as heart
disease.
Ophthalmic Ointment
 This medication is used to treat eye infection. This medication treats
only bacterial eye infections.
Acetic Acid
 to test for the presence of protein in the urine
Benedict’s Solution
 to test for the presence of glucose in the urine
