OVERVIEW

The business model canvas created by Alexander Osterwalder is a great tool to help you
understand a business model in a straightforward, structured way. Using this canvas will lead to
insights about the customers you serve, what value propositions are offered through what
channels, and how your company makes money. You can also use the business model canvas to
understand your own business model or that of a competitor.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. This is a group project consists of four (4) members in one group.

2. You need to choose ONE product/service and propose a business plan using a Business
Model Canvas.

3. You need to highlight each element in the Business Model Canvas (BMC), and propose
relevant business model and strategy. You must provide detail explanation of each
element.

4. You need to write a final report using the given format.

5. You need to prepare ONE video presentation of your proposed business plan using any
technology tool availble (ex: Powerpoint, Powtoon, Prezi etc). Video can be uploaded to
youtube, google drive or save to CD for submission to your lecturer. The duration for video
presentation must be within 5 to 10 minutes.
6. Use Times New Roman 12 or Arial 11 with 1.5 spacing for writing a report.
7. The report must be submitted on or before ______________. Failure to do so will
jeopardize the student’s grade for this subject.

8. Report can be submitted in a soft copy format (online) or hard copy (courrier) to your
lecturer.

9. Your report should not more than 30 pages excluding appendices.

BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS GUIDELINE

Using the provided Business Model Canvas and its guideline, you will develop your business. You
and your team are going to produce the following item along with its detail once you have
completed your business model canvas.
 Customer Segments
 Value Propositions
 Channels
 Customer Relationship
 Revenue Streams
 Key Activities
 Key Resources
 Key Partnerships
 Cost Structure
All of the above items with complete details (picture/diagram/illustration/listing/etc.) are required so
that you can document it and submit for financial loan proposals.

GUIDELINES FOR CONTENTS

1. COVER PAGE
 Company Name
 Student Names, Student ID, Programme and Group
 Lecturer Name

2. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
 If Appropriate – should be written last to focus on key points/findings.

3. INTRODUCTION

 Outline business background, business structure


 Outline the purpose of BMC preparation
 Describes target customer’s problem/pain point. Describe the scenario.
 Identify how your product/service may solved the problem identified earlier.
 Conduct SWOT analysis for two (2) competitors

 propose a viable business plan using a business model canvas


 you must include these elements in your explanation:
 Customer Segments: Who are the customers? What do they think? See? Feel? Do?
 Value Propositions: What’s compelling about the proposition? Why do customers buy,
use?
 Channels: How are these propositions promoted, sold and delivered? Why? Is it
working?
 Customer Relationships: How do you interact with the customer through their
‘journey’?
 Revenue Streams: How does the business earn revenue from the value propositions?
 Key Activities: What uniquely strategic things does the business do to deliver its
proposition?
 Key Resources: What unique strategic assets must the business have to compete?
 Key Partnerships: What can the company not do so it can focus on its Key Activities?
 Cost Structure: What are the business’ major cost drivers? How are they linked to
revenue?

5. CONCLUSION

End with a brief conclusion and the next step of action to be taken. The conclusion can include the
entrepreneur’s decision on how to proceed next. It can be a statement providing viability of the
proposal business and seeking grants or loan approval.

6. APPENDICES (if any)

Attach any material that does nots easily fit into the body of a business plan such as:
 Photos or diagrams of product or prototype
 All charts, financials, visuals, and other related items can be placed here and referenced
in the report.
 Market research projections.
 Source of market data
 Capital equipment and facility requirements
