develop the mastery of multiplying up to 3 – digit numbers by up to 2 –
digit numbers with or without regrouping. The activities are modified and
is suited for you to answer independently.

What I Need to Know
You will be using the lattice method, place value chart, long and
short method of multiplying numbers.
71 71 = 70 + 1
x 2 2= 2
142 140+2 = 142
Short method Long Method
For you to achieve the objectives cited above, you are to do the

Lesson
(Multiplying Numbers)
1
In this lesson, you are going to learn multiplying 3 – digit numbers
by up to 2 – digit numbers without regrouping.
What’s In
Solution:
32 people every hour
x 3 hours
96 people in 3 hours
What’s New
The seller opened 21 boxes of apples. Each box had 122 apples.
How many apples were there in all?

What is It
The seller opened 21 boxes of apple. Each box had 122 apples.
How many apples were there in all?
There are several ways to come up with the correct answer. Let
us use first the lattice method.
Lattice Method:
a. Draw a 3 by 2 rectangle and position the factors as shown below.
1 2 2
b. Multiply each digit above by each digit on the side. Write the digit’s
product as shown:
1 2 2
2
2 4 4
1
1 2 2
1 2 2
2 4 4 2
1
2 1 2 2
5 6 2
9
Using the place value chart :
Step 1. Multiply 1 Hundreds, 2 Tens and 2 Ones by One.
Thousands Hundreds Tens Ones
1 2 2
x 2 1
1 2 2 1 x 122
122 = 100 + 20 + 2
X 21 = 20 + 1
100+ 20 + 2
+ 2 000 + 400+ 40_____
2 000 + 500+ 60 + 2 = 2 562
Short method:
122
x 21
122
+ 244__
2 562

b. Multiply each digit above by each digit on the side. If the product is
1-digit number write the result in the lower portion of the diagram. On
the other hand, if the product is a 2-digit number write the tens digit in
the upper portion of the diagram and the ones digit in the lower portion.
