Resurfacing Work (ROAD) And Repairing
Road Kerb
1.0 OBJECTIVE
To purpose of this method statement is to describe the activities and methods which
will be used to carry out rehabilitation and resurfacing work for existing road.
2.0 SCOPE
3.0 MATERIALS
a. Crusher run
b. Sand
c. Bituminous coat
d. Asphaltic concrete course
4.0 EQUIPMENT AND RESOURCES
a. Miling machine
b. Road cutting maching
c. Back pusher
d. Compactor machine
e. Pneumatic roller
f. Backhoe
The requirements:
a. Ensure an issuance of Permit of Work (PTW) was done before starting the
timetabled work.
b. Ensure a working area was identified and barricaded entirely. No movement of
workers is allowed beyond the working area.
3
c. Dump must be provided in working space to remove construction waste and
debris. The working area must be kept clear at all time.
A. Resurfacing works
a. Demarcation on site shall be carried out to determine the extent of repair
area.
b. Joint survey on existing pavement shall be carried out prior to the
commencement of milling works. Cut the boundary with road cutting
machine to avoid spreading crack.
c. Milling out of the existing depth until reach soil surface or not exceeding
110mm depth.
d. Compact the surface until well compact and even level.
e. The surface shall be cleaned from dirt, loose material and standing water.
f. Supply and apply bituminous Tack Coat prior to the laying of Asphaltic
Concrete Base Course(ACBC). The spray rate of the tack coat shall be
between 0.15 to 0.30 litre/sq.m
g. Alignment, level and surface regularity will be checked in accordance to
Technical Specification.
h. The approved premix shall be deliver to the site by tipper trucks. To
prevent lass of heat, the mixture shall be covered by tarpaulin.
i. Supply and lay ACBC with 0.08m thickness for first level. Compact properly
the premix with compacting machine with 20 full cycle.
j. After compact, Supply and lay another ACBC with 0.08m thickness for
second level base course. Repeat the compaction with compactor machine
with another 20 full cycle.
k. Supply and apply bituminous tack coat at ACBC prior to laying Asphaltic
Concrete Wearing Course (ACWC) with 0.06m depth. Compact properly
the premix with compacting machine with 20 full cycle.
l. Asphaltic concrete shall not be opened to traffic until compaction has been
complete and material has thoroughly cooled and set which is usually not
less than 4 hour of complete compaction.

A. Repairing Work for Road Kerbing
a. Identify all the damage road which need to repair or demolish and
construction new road kerb.
b. Hack all the damage road kerb with hacking machine until totally remove.
Or rough the surface.
c. Install formwork for new road kerb. Make sure the formwork is well
support.
d. Identify level for existing kerb and mark plan level for new kerb so there is
not different level between existing road kerb and new road kerb.
e. Roughen the surface or placing wire mash at joint existing road kerb.
f. Start concreting from predetermined construction joint and continue until
the next predetermined construction joint.
g. Compact the concrete by mechanical vibrator to ensure the concrete is
worked into the corner of the structural member.
h. Carry out curing works by distribute water to all part of concrete until thoroughly
cured.
i. Once Cure, Clean the surface from debris or any other unwanted material.
j. Paint the clean surface road kerb as per design and existing road kerb.
k. Barricade the area to make sure the surface is not been disturb and
properly dry.
