5. (a) Both toy car A and toy car B start moving towards each other simultaneously from
point X and point Y respectively. The distance between point X and point Y is 10 m.
The toy car A moves 80 cm in the first minute, 75 cm in the second minute, 70 cm in
the third minute and so on in the subsequent minutes. The toy car B moves d cm in
the first minute and its distance reduces 2 cm for every subsequent minute. Both toy

(b) A company established in the year 2013. The net profit of the company in the year

3. Pak Atan is a construction worker. He was instructed by his boss to pave the floor of a store
with square tiles. Pak Atan started to pave the floor with three tiles on the first day in the
middle of the floor. The next day, the paved region is enlarged by adding new tiles with
different colour to surround the previous tiles.
Diagram 3 shows the process is on-going until the floor of the store is fully tiled. The
measurement of each tile is 1 m length and 1 m width.

(a) Calculate the perimeter of the tiles for three consecutive days. Hence, state whether
the perimeter of the tiles form an arithmetic progression or a geometric progression.
(b) Calculate the perimeter of the tiles on the fifteenth day.
(c) On the fifteenth day, the floor of the store is completely paved with tiles. Calculate

of the smallest semicircle is 4 cm and the diameter of the next semicircle increases by 6 cm
consecutively until the largest semicircle with a diameter of 112 cm.
If Ahmad bought a wire with a length of 5.5 m, determine whether Ahmad is able to form
curves of complete semi circles.

6 Ramesh has a few solid cylinders of various sizes. Diagram 4 shows some of the solid
cylinders.

The radius and height of each following cylinder are reduced by 1 cm respectively. He puts
the solid cylinder one by one in the order of size into a water tank resulting the water in the
tank to overflow continuously into a measuring cylinder. He measures the volume of water in
the measuring cylinder after each addition. Table 2 shows the volume of water as measured
by Ramesh.

term which is p. The ninth term for arithmetic progression is 3p and the common difference
and the common ratio is 0.5. It is found that 20 times the sum of the fifth term for the
geometric progression sequence is the same as the nth term for the arithmetic progression
sequence. Find the value of n.

12 An experiment was made on a certain type of bacteria in a pacticular solution. There was an
increase of 15% more than the previous 30 minutes. If there are 1000 bacteria at 8:00 am on
Monday, determine the time when the number of bacteria in the solution reaches 1 000 000.

5 A straight path is made by laying paving slabs end to end. The slabs are laid in order of size
and their lengths are in arithmetic progression. Given that the shortest slab is 0.79 metres
long, that the longest slab is 1.24 metres long and that the difference in the lengths of
adjoining slabs is 0.025 metres.

(i) the number of slabs used,

located at Taman Kemboja costs RM 400 000 and its value is estimated to increase 1.8%
