INDUSTRY PROFILE

SPUN PIPE Walter Reginald Hume (1873-1943) from Australia is the inventor of
Spun Pipe. Spun pipe is the concrete pipe making process using the centrifugal
process and also popularly known as spun process in many parts. This is most
traditional method of producing the concrete pipes.

RCC Spun pipe refers to Reinforced Concrete cement pipes. The Spun pipe
process is widely used in un-developed and developing countries. Generally these
spun pipes are used for sewage, drainage purposes.

The Spun pipe process is more labor oriented, exhaustive, less productive and
quality is largely depend on the operator skill. However this process has got its
own significance interms of social attachment as these units are operating since
decades by the earlier generations.

The developing countries are gradually shifted or shifting from Hume/ Spun
process to latest Vertical cast process. The new technology aims in terms of faster
production with limited labour and most importantly the better quality product with
consistency. Durable and sturdy the RCC Spun Pipes are used in various industrial
and agricultural sectors. Moreover, we offer these Spun Pipes in different
dimensions and sizes.

RCC Hume Pipes are used for sewerage, drainage, Culverts, irrigation, water
supply /transportation, service lines etc.According to BUREAU OF INDIAN
STANDARDS concrete pipes shall be classified as under:
NP2:- Reinforced Concrete Non-Pressure Pipes Used For: - Light-duty drainage
and irrigation/water transportation use, cross drains/culverts carrying light traffic.

NP3:- Reinforced Concrete Non-Pressure Pipes Used For: - Medium-duty drainage

and irrigation/water transportation use, service lines, cross drains/culverts carrying
medium traffic

Np4:- Reinforced Concrete Non-Pressure Pipes Used For: - Heavy-duty drainage

and irrigation/water transportation use, cross drains/culverts carrying heavy traffic.

In India first RCC SPUN PIPE Industry started in Bombay (Mumbai) in 1972.
Named as“BHARATH SPUN PIPES INDUSTRY”. At present in INDIA 6450
industries.

Market Potential: Public Health Engineering Department, Public Works

Departments, AgricultureAnd Forest Department, National Highways,
Environment Engineering Department,Panchayats Municipal Corporations are the
bulk consumer’s of RCC spun pipes. Most of thecustomers are approved civil
contractors who are executing the works of the Government Department and
Public Sector Undertakings. Presently government is giving stress on rural
irrigation and improving methods of water supply scheme, so the demand for pipes
is increasing.

In 2009, Kashmir ranked 40td among sales and exporters. This situation can be
explained by the high import duty applied, and on the other hand, from the low
labor skills in operating the machines. According to data for index of industrial
production, growth is 16.7%.The spun pipe industry to grow further in the coming
years. Two important reasons for this are:
India’s large size.
India is irrigation country.

PRODUCT PROFILE

The nature of this industry is carried through manufacturing & sales.

Production process
Mixture
According to mix design and regular checking aggregates, water and Cement are
used by weight. Instructions are written on boards for proper mixtures. Instructions
are given to consume mixture within 30 minutes for its proper strength. IS 456 is
followed for this

Molding: All moulds are properly

cleaned from Hand Grinder after
opening. Proper supports aregiven for
centering of cages. {If it is higher dia 2
cages are made as per IS: 458 and
upper cage isalways 75% of inner
cage} Proper oiling is done on moulds
as well as on bushes and rings. These
areproperly packed with tie rods and
nut-bolts.

Manufacturing: After molding moulds are

properly kept on runners with the help of
Chain Pulleys.Initially while pouring the
mixture RPM of machine is very slow for
proper pouring and than RPM are up to 1500
as per the requirement of IS: 458. When the
proper spinning is done it leaves extra water
which gives the strength to the pipe. After it,
finishing of pipes is done by cutting from rods
and brushes.

Demolding: While demolding, with the help of Chain pulleys moulds are
separated. Moulds are demoulded after 24 hours for proper quality of pipes.

Marking: After manufacturing process, all pipes are marked and dated from
permanent marker.Supervisor record all these marked numbers in front of tagged
numbers and after wards these are stored in Computer by date and marked number
wise with the weigh of cages.

Curing: After Demoulding with the help of Trolleys, Hydra and ceilings pipes are
kept in curing tanks for proper curing. Rotation of pipes is done daily and 24 hours
Sprinklers are on. After 28 days curing pipes are taken out from tanks and storage
is done.
