CINEMA IN INDIA

 The cinema of India consists of films produced across India, which includes the
cinematic cultures all over India.
 In the 20th century, Indian cinema, along with the Hollywood and Chinese film
industries, became a global enterprise.
 India is the world's largest producer of films.

BOLLYWOOD
 Bollywood is the informal term popularly used for the Hindi-language film industry
based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.
 Bollywood is the largest film producer in India and one of the largest centers of film
production in the world.
 Bollywood films usually follow a similar story line and include songs and dancing.
Bollywood films are usually about 3 hours.

FASHION IN INDIA
 Sari- for women. It is usually 4-8 meters long to cover up the whole body
 Scarf and other clothes were
 Dhoti- for men. It is a rectangular piece of unstitched cloth, usually around 4.5 meters
long, wrapped around the waist and the legs and knotted at the waist, resembling a long
skirt.

WESTERN INFLUENCES ON MIDDLE CLASS


 The first moment of middle class development can be located in the colonial period. The
impetus for this came from the British colonial rule. Over the two centuries of their rule,
they introduced modern industrial economy, secular education and a new
administrative framework.
 The second moment of the middle began with the coming of independence from the
colonial rule in 1947.

BUDDHISM IN THE WESTERN WORLD


 In the eighteenth century onwards, a number of Buddhist texts were brought to Europe
by people who had visited the colonies in the East. These texts aroused the interest of
some European scholars who then began to study them.
 By the early part of the twentieth century, a number of the Europeans, who had
travelled to the East to study Buddhism, had returned. Some of them had become
monks and they inspired and strengthened the Buddhist circles in Europe.
 During the second half of the nineteenth century, Chinese immigrants settled in Hawaii
and California. These immigrants brought a number of Mahayana Buddhist practices
with them and built numerous temples.
 When Tibetan refugees began arriving in America after 1959, they brought with them
Vajrayana Buddhism. Soon it gained a substantial following there.

YOGA
 Yoga is union of mind and body, a spiritual science of self-realization.
 Yoga is a series of exercises with twisted body poses.
 Basically, it helps you to connect with your inner spirit, which is essentially divine
and is connected to the universal spirit or God.
