Note to Candidates:

The aim of this examination is to establish your understanding of the general


principles involved. Answers to questions should always include the relevant and
principles which apply to land, sea, rail and road transport. Specific examples and
descriptions may be taken from any appropriate mode of transport.

Answer ONLY FOUR, and NOT more than four questions should be attempted in
essay format.

Question 1

In every transport company of your choice Management may require to carry out a
long-term change in employee responsibilities in order to create a market that leads
to better service at faster and lower cost. This would at times need some complex
techniques. As an expert in transport, prepare a diagnostic for connected change,
highlighting dimensions, objectives and areas of change.

It is rather prudent for strategic Network Planners to be abreast of transport


business terms which they are able to understand and use frequently during
corporate meetings.

industry. (5 marks)

Question 3.

An airline industry may be able to use historical methods to forecast demand but,
we know that demand in transport is derived. Transport sells a seat which is called
a service which may pass through a transformation from the time of creation of the
Company to the decay of the service or product. Illustrate the life cycle of the
service describing fully every phase of its life to its decadence.

(a) How would you define customer service in a car spare parts
Company. (5 marks)

(b) What needs and interests does a customer consider dealing with a
Company which markets and sells vehicle spare parts for his fleet of
haulage trucks. (20 marks)

In the process of strategic planning change is normally resisted by employees due


to some factors. Explain five (5) instances which you know are the sources of
resistance to change. (25 marks)

(c) Compare the five (5) forms of business collaboration, explaining in detail
the

advantages and disadvantages of each type in a logistics Company of your


Choice. (20 marks)
