Pakistan

Pakistan is a country which is neighboring Punjab. There was army rule in Pakistan
for 33 years. The last army rule was until 2009 under General Parvez Musharraf.
There was partition done in India. Two countries were created which were
dominion of Pakistan and the union of India. Pakistan was divided in East and
West Pakistan. The provinces of Punjab and Bengal also got divided. Railways,
assest etc were also divided.
The division was done based on two nation theory.
Issues
Kashmir issue
Kashmir was a Muslim state which was ruled by Maharaja Hari Singh. He signed a
standstill agreement as he didn’t take a decision on 15 august 1947 and moreover
India was not in the favor of a temporary agreement.
Paksitan attacked Kashmir and Hari Singh fleed Srinagar. He signed instrument of
accession but Pakistan rejected it. Indian army landed in Srinagar and pushed
back the Pakistani troops. This led to emergence of line of control.
Shimla Accord
The Shimla Accord was signed in 1972. This was signed by Indira Gandhi and
Bhutto so that both the countries settle their disputes by the means of peaceful
negotiations.
Saichen Glacier- there were demands to remove the troops from the glacier but
as it is strategically important India refused to do so. It is the highest battlefield in
the world.
Sir creek – it is 60 km estuary in the ran of Kutch. The ran of Kutch lies between
Gujrat on India side and Sindh on the Pakistan side. The problem lies between the
boundary line which divides sir creek.
• Water Issue - Indus water treaty –
• India should not stop flow of water and it was Signed in 1960 to
provide flow of water to Pakistan
India’s Concern
1. Epicentre of terrorism- Pakistan is active in terrorist activities and is home
to many terrorist groups.

2. CPEC -
It is China Pakistan economic corridor. It is project between Pakistan and China,
to promote connectivity across Pakistan with a network of pipelines railways
highways etc. it is part of OBOR itself. 2. It will give China access to the Africa and
Middle East from Gwadar Port, which will help China to gain access to the Indian
Ocean and in return China will help Pakistan with development projects and
overcome the crisis which they are facing.
Issues with CPEC
1. CPEC Passes through (PoK) and Baluchistan where there are a lot of terror risks etc.
2. There is lack of transparency.
3. China not partnering with local companies will not help Pakistan create opportunities for
job.
Objections by India to CPEC-OBOR
1. India is not in support of OBOR.
2. China is building roads in Gilgit-Balistan, which is under Pakistan’s control and is also a
disputed territory which India claims as a part of Jammu and Kashmir.
3. In the south Asian region ,India’s strategic interests would hinder if CPEC gets succ essful.
