Welcome to our Eucharistic celebration! (pause)
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, we are gathered here this afternoon to
celebrate the Holy Mass on the solemnity of St. John Bosco, Founder of the
Society of St Francis de Sales, of the Institute of the Daughters of Mary
Help of Christians, of the Association of the Salesian Cooperators and of
the Association of Mary Help of Christians. He is known by most people as
Don Bosco, the Father and Teacher of Youth.
Born on the 16th of August 1815 of Francis and Margaret Occhiena – Bosco
in a hamlet in the Kingdom of Saridinia (now part of Northern Italy). He
had a prophetic dream at 9 in which, through the motherly intervention of
Mary, the Holy Spirit raised him up to contribute to the salvation of youth,
"that part of human society which is so exposed and yet so rich in
promise". The Spirit formed within him the heart of a father and teacher,
capable of total self-giving: "I have promised God that 1 would give of
myself to my last breath for my poor boys". (SDB Constitutions, 1) We
commemorate today his entrance into eternal glory on January 31, 1888 at
the age of 72.
Let us thank the Lord in this Holy Mass for the many years of triumph and
difficulty that has made this institution a center of evangelization and
education and that by God’s grace, we may continue to form men and
women, Salesians and laypeople imbibed with Salesian values, good
Christians and upright citizens. (pause)
To lead in today’s solemn liturgy is Monsignor Julius Heruela, Vicar
General of the Diocese of Dumaguete. (pause)
Let us all stand and sing our processional hymn.
Then, the processional hymn is sung.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
GOSPEL READING Mt 18,1-6.10
Their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.
T
he disciples approached Jesus and
said,
"Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of
heaven?"
He called a child over, placed it in
their midst, and said,
"Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become
like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my
name receives me.
“Whoever causes one of these little ones who
believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him to have a great millstone
hung around his neck and to be drowned in the
depths of the sea.
"See that you do not despise one of these little
ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father."

PROFESSION OF FAITH
At the end of the homily, the Symbol or Profession of Faith or Creed, when

OFFERTORY HYMN
The Presider, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and
holding it slightly raised above the altar with both hands, saying in a low
voice:
The Deacon, or the Presider, pours wine and a little water into the chalice,
saying quietly:
Then the Presider, standing at the side of the altar, washes his hands,
saying quietly:
May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands for the praise
and glory of his name, for our good and the good of all his holy
Church.
PREFACE
Presider:
Presider:
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
and all you have created
rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced
clearly and distinctly, as the nature of these words requires.
For on the night he was betrayed
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
he himself took bread,
and, giving you thanks, he said the blessing,
broke the bread and gave it to his disciples, saying:
He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten,
and genuflects in adoration.
He bows slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU, AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW AND ETERNAL
COVENANT, WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT
FOR YOU AND FOR MANY FOR THE
FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
