Installing operating System
2. Aims and objectives
Aim: To know the way, how to install an operating system.
Objectives: To hide the details of the hardware resources from the users. To provide users a
convenient interface to use the computer system. To act as an intermediary between the
hardware and its users, making it easier for the users to access and use other resources.
3. Setup Requirements/Materials Requirements
Materials requirements:

• USB drive of 8 GB.


• Floppy Disk Drive.
• Computer or laptop that supports windows 10.
Setup requirements:

• Windows XP Security: Step By Step by SANS.


4. Procedures
Installing operating system:
a. Download windows 10
I. Open the link “download windows 10” and click the “download tool now”.

II. Click onto the “Windows 10 installation Media” and accept the terms and
conditions.

III. Select the “create installation media”.

IV. Then we have to select the “language, architecture and edition”.

V. We click on “ISO file” because to use on other PC for the future.

VI. Download will be proceeding.

b. Create Installation Media:


I. Download the “Rufus” and open the Rufus tool. Then we change the file system
into NTFS and we click into small like CD.

II. Then we select the downloaded ISO file.

III. Then we click start and we click OK.

c. Select Boot Device in BIOS:
I. When we restart the computer click F12 to enter the Boot Manager.

II. On the Boot Manager select “USB Storage Device” under Legacy Boot menu.

III. Press any key to boot.

d. Windows 10 Install and Format:


I. Select the preferred choices and click next at the window setup page.

II. Click the install now option.

III. We can enter the product key if we have and if we don’t have then we can skip it.

IV. After finishing reading the license term page, accept the term option and click
next.

V. Choose the “Custom” installation.

VI. The setup for disk partitioning will show up.

VII. Delete the system reserved partition and the first primary partition.

VIII. the earlier deleted partition will become an unallocated partition, there create a
new partition by clicking on new and allocating the preferred size and click
Apply.

IX. A new primary partition will be created as well as a new system reserved partition
for the new Operating System.

X. Wait for the installation to be completed.

e. Setting Up Windows 10
I. You can enter the product key if you have or you can skip by clicking next.

II. You can choose the customize settings option to edit the settings or choose the use
express settings option.

III. Then we create an account for this PC and click next.

IV. After a few minutes of loading screens and some welcome messages, it will start
your windows desktop.

5. Observation
• We can download the installation media from the website if we don’t have.
• We can uncheck the box “use the recommended options for this PC” if we want to
use it in other PC.
• If you are not sure about system architecture, you can also check system architecture
by right clicking this PC and clicking the properties.
• It is said to choose ISO file against USB flash drive because it is versatile.
• We do not burn ISO file in DVD nowadays because many do not have DVD instead,
we have USB ports.
• We need Rufus to burn ISO file.
• Rufus can automatically detect our flash drive.
• In Rufus dialog box we have to make sure that we select the right file system (NTFS).
• Continuing this Rufus operation system can erase all the data in flash drive so we
have to make sure we have backup the data from flash drive.
• Our flash drive becomes USB DVD.
• While doing the BIOS booting, we cannot use mouse we have to use keyboard.
• Before we install and format the PC, we have to plug in the power source and we
have to make sure we keep it our laptop till 90%.
