JOB CONTENT

1. ROLE OBJECTIVE

To ensure development and supply of cane in the right quantity, quality and optimal cost to ensure high
sugar percentage in cane.

2. DETAILED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

STRATEGIC/ POLICY

− Participate in senior management cross-functional meetings with respect to plant operations such as
planning for production and capacity utilisation before the start of the season, capacity expansion
planning etc.
OPERATIONAL
− Cane development planning and scheduling
▪ Plan for development and supply of cane for the season by planning for centres, deployment of
staff, increase in area under cultivation, oversee the development of the calendar of activities for
cane development and set targets for varietal cane sowing, pesticide spraying etc.

− Cane development monitoring


▪ Monitor all cane development activities through periodic inspection of cane growing areas to check
for varietal balance plantation, pesticides treatment, and grower enrolment all activities as per the
cane calendar to ensure greater cane quantity, quality and optimal varietal balance.
− Cane procurement planning and scheduling
▪ Plan and monitor procurement of cane during the crushing season by monitoring setting up and
bifurcation of cane centres, distribution of indents, purchase, transportation of cane from the
centres and monitor the overall cane supply position with the aim of reducing time between cane
harvesting and crushing to ensure freshness of cane.

− Cane procurement monitoring


▪ Monitor procurement of cane from all collection points to ensure timely availability for production.

− Cane indenting
▪ Direct distribution of cane indents to farmers, while supporting sowing of high yield varieties and
determine ordering of cane indents based on crop maturity time through the system.
− Complaint handling
▪ Provide guidance to cane development and procurement officers on customer / farmer compliant
handling and problem solving.
− Liaisoning
▪ Liase with government officials, local public representatives and prominent farmers and
representatives for rapport building and provide information to them on cane development
initiatives, new varieties to be developed, varieties planned for eradication and cane procurement
initiatives within the purview of the government guidelines.
− Legal issues
▪ Attend legal cases related to cancellation of license of purchase centres, boundary policy for cane
centres and appeal to cane commissioner for settlement of various cases.
− People responsibility
▪ Review performance of direct reportees and provide development inputs through identification of
training needs and nominating for training programmes.
▪ Participate in senior management meetings at the plant for moderation of performance ratings and
promotion recommendations across all departments.
− Financial responsibility
▪ Consolidate and review the cane budget for the department.
− Any other work/ responsibility that may be assigned, from time to time by GM

crops etc.
