Churchgoers in the Philippines have been urged not to fall for products
advertised as being ‘holy’ to protect themselves from COVID-19. Besides alcohol,
church leaders said there’s no such thing as a holy face mask.

The Catholic church in the Philippines warned against buying alcohol and other
products claiming to protect against the coronavirus.

“There is no sacramental holy alcohol that we should make the sign of the cross
with when we rub it to ourselves,” The Catholic Bishops Conference of the
Philippines (CBCP) said in a statement on Monday. “Moreover, it should not be
sprinkled on the faithful.”

They likewise warned that there are no such things as holy face masks, holy
face shields, holy hand sanitizers and holy personal protective equipment. “This is
an irreverent marketing strategy or gimmick,” the statement added.

Lesson Using Information from
Informative Talks and Panel
2 Discussions

We live in world wherein being well-informed is a necessity. Good information has a

strong tendency to be persuasive, and persuasion relies on good information. If
information is inaccurate, incomplete, or unclear, it will be of limited usefulness to
your audience.

What’s New

The main goal of an informative talk is to help explain a specific subject and to
help the audience remember the knowledge later.

Activity 1. Read and Learn

Directions: Read and understand the brief paragraph. Answer the questions
that follow.

I believe that taking a half an hour break from classes to rest your eyes
and brain would benefit not only the students but the teachers as well. We
all get stressed; levels of stress are the same whether you are an adult or a
child. Higher stress levels make people get distracted because their mind is
focused on other things. Planning a nap into the curriculum, whether it’s a
quick sleep on the desks or in a dedicated room, will improve concentration
and the overall ability to absorb the materials.

1. What kind of information can you derive from the text?

2. To whom do you think it is addressed?

3. Do you agree with the speaker’s point of view?
4. How will you use the information you’ve learned in your everyday life as a
student?

8
What is It

What is an informative talk?

An informative talk provides interesting and useful information about a
specific subject to increase the knowledge of your audience. To make sure that the
information contained in a speech is remembered by the audience, the deliverer of
an informative talk should combine organization, repetition and focused
visualizations to increase the effectiveness of the speech and the likelihood that the
audience will leave informed. Achieving all three of these goals- accuracy, clarity
and interest-is the key to one’s effectiveness as a speaker.
Types of informative talks
1. Definition explains the meaning, theory, or philosophy of a specific topic
that the audience likely does not know much about.
2. Demonstration explains how to do something or a how-to speech that will
likely use visual examples that show the audience how to move from step to
step through a particular activity.
3. Explanatory gives description of the state of a given topic. This will also
utilize visualizations that give the audience a visual representation of the
particular data or statistics contained in the speech.
4. Descriptive creates a vivid picture in a person’s mind regarding an object,
person, animal, or place.

What is a panel discussion?

The panel discussion technique was originated in 1929 by Harry A. Overstreet.
It is a specific format used in a meeting, conference or convention. It is a live virtual
discussion about a specific topic amongst a selected group of panelists who share
differing perspectives in front of a large audience.
Objectives of Panel Discussion

• To provide information
• To analyze a problem from different angles
• To identify the values
• To organize for mental recreations

Characteristics of Panel Discussion

• It is used in university and college levels to organize teaching at reflective

level;
• It develops the ability of problem solving;
• It helps to understand the nature, problem, or theme of discussion; and
• It develops ability of presentation of theme and giving their point of view
logically.

from Wuhan tested positive for the novel coronavirus. On the same day, on the

The Philippines implemented various actions including a community
quarantine in Metro Manila which expanded to Visayas and Mindanao; expanded
