Breaker basics: Definition of a breaker
Definition:
A breaker is a powerful percussion hammer fitted to an excavator for demolishing
concrete structures or rocks. It is ppowered by
y an auxiliary
y hydraulic
y system
y from the
excavator. Additionally, demolition crews employ the hoe ram for jobs too large for jack
hammering or areas where blasting is not possible due to safety or environmental issues.
Breakers are often referred to as "hammers", "hoe rams" or "hoe rammers.“ These terms
are popular and commonly used amongst construction/demolition workers.

professional contractors
p workingg in urban zones,, where noise
level must be maintenanceled and/or where local regulation may
require silenced breakers.

• Top mount versions,

versions because of their simplified design,
design offer easy
access to the power cell for easy on‐site maintenance.

• Side mount versions offer similar characteristics as the Top Mount

versions, yet the mounting on the arm of the excavator is made at an
angle.

How to adjust relief pressure?

 Beforehand:
Install the pressure gauge between High and Low
auxiliary piping as shown in the next illustration
illustration. 
 Note: Some of mid to large excavators are provided
for the display of the pressure through the monitor panel.
In this case, it is not necessary to proceed with the 
above settings

 Procedure:
1. Close the stop valve at return line () and open the high
pressure line ()
2. Activate the breaker switch.
3. Check how much pressure on the system through the
gauge or monitor panel.
4. Adjust the pressure by relief valve (refer page 47)

DXB Maintenance: Warning

Warning These parts are fragile!

Even light shocks can damage them and induce breaker malfunctioning
Inspect the parts. If necessary, you can
smooth small marks. But it is forbidden

If the parts are too much damaged,
replace them!

Warning Smoothing can increase the clearance between parts and cause
seizing or breaker trouble.

DXB Maintenance: Storage
General Conditions:
 Environment conditions around the breaker should be clean, dry and well-ventilated.
 Hydraulic passage (High pressure and return pressure) must be sealed.
 Breaker must be safely covered with plastic sheeting or tarpaulins to protect them
against the weather, dust, humidity, etc.
 Remove the tool and ensure the retaining pins, bushings, and piston bottom are well
greased.
