LOCATION OF CONTROLS CONTROLS AND THEIR FUNCTIONS a 1. POWER ON/OFF SWITCH Set the switch to upper side, the radio is switched on, Set the switch to lower side, the radio is switched off. 2. BAND ‘SELECTOR FM to select local mono or stereo broadcast stations Mw_ to select local broadcasting stations SW1 to select SW stations on the band marked SW1 SW2 to select SW stations indicated on (SW2) band selector 3. SW2 BAND SELECTOR For SW reception on the band selected: Band 2 5.80 MHz to 6.20 MHz 3 7.05 MHz to 7.50 MHz 4 9.45 MHz to 9.90 MHz 5 11.55 MHz to 12.05 MHz 6 15.05 MHz to 15.55 MHz 7 17.45 MHz to 18.05 MHz 8 21.45 MHz to 21.95 MHz 4, TUNING KNOB Turn the knob to select the desired station. The frequencies available within each band are marked on the corresponding dial scale. 5. TUNING INDICATOR This indicator will light up when a station is tuned in. properly. If a weak station is received or the battery becomes weak, the indicator may not light up. 6. STEREO INDICATOR This indicator will light up when a FM stereo station is tuned, and the FM mode selector switch is in the stereo position. 2 i 10. ll. 12. ks TELESCOPIC ANTENNA For FM and SW reception, adjust the length and direction for best reception. For MW reception this radio has incorporated a ferrite rod antenna which eliminates the need for a telescopic antenna. Turn the radio itself in the direction which provides better reception. VOLUME CONTROL Rotate clockwise to increase sound level. MODE SELECTOR For stereo reception, set this switch to stereo position. If a background interference noise is heard, set this switch to mono position to eliminate this noise. When a FM stereo station is tuned without the headphone set, the sound from the internal speaker is heard monaural even if the stereo indicator is lit. For stereo reception plug in the provided stereo headphone set. HEADPHONE JACK The built in speaker will be disconnected as the headphone is plugged into the jack. DC JACK To connect a car adaptor or AC having power plug 4.5V DC 200ma_ center negative (not included). When the plug is inserted into the jack the power of the external battery will be disconnected. HAND STRAP. BATTERY COVER OPERATION POWER BATTERY Insert 3 AA type batteries (not included), follow the polarities indicated in the compartment. EXTERNAL POWER SOURCE Be sure to use the appropriate power indicated (4.5V DC 200ma center negative). CAUTION Do not use power that exceed the voltage indicated, this can damage the delicate parts inside the radio. RADIO OPERATION To turn the radio on, slide the power @ switch upward (red spot shown in the lower part of the switch) indicates the switch is in the on position. Select a band such FM/MW/SW1 or SW2, by sliding the band selector @. If SW2 band is selected, set the SW2 band selector © to a position according the frequency of the station desired (See chart on page 2). Adjust the volume control to a listening level. To turn radio off set the power switch @ to the lower position (red spot covered). STEREO RECEPTION By plugging the stereo headphone set (provided), will receive in stereo mode, the FM stereo stations available in your area. When the headphone set is used on MW or a short wave band the sound will be heard monaural. PRECAUTIONS Do not open the cabinet, refer servicing to qualified personnel only. Operate the set only on 4.5V DC. For AC or car battery, use the correct adaptor for this set. Do not use any other AC power adaptor. The polarity of the adaptor which suits this radio is center negative only. When the set is not in use for a long period of time or is to be operated extensively vn AC, remove the batteries to avoid damage caused by battery leakage. Never leave the set in a car exposed to direct sunlight for a long period with all the doors and windows closed. The cabinet may become deformed and deterioration of performance may result. Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep magnetized commuter passes, tickets or personal credit cards, recorded tapes, watches, etc. away from the radio. The speaker magnet in the radio may do damage to these items. Do not use any abrasive powder to clean the cabinet. Wipe it with a soft cloth moistened with a mild solution of soap-and-water. When listening in a train, car or building, use the radio near a window to obtain best possible reception.
