Emergency Load Shedding
Features

 Selection of feeders to be tripped based on the electrical

network status

 Grouping of feeders depending upon the type of load

 Group Load Shedding

 feeders are divided into a set of groups based on the priority of the
feeders

 Total relief is specified and Lower priority groups are tripped first
and All the breakers in the group are shed.

 This scheme is suitable for contingency situation

03/27/2021 Gyanendra Sharma - NPTI Delhi 73
Emergency Load Shedding

 Cyclic load shedding

 All the feeders are selected for load shedding.

 It uniformly distributes load shedding for all feeders as all feeders
are subjected to load shedding
 This scheme is suitable only during regular shortfall of power.

 Group cum cyclic load shedding

 Feeders are divided in group and within a group feeders are
arranged priority wise
 It uniformly distributes load shedding for all feeders. This scheme is
suitable for both contingent and regular situation.

03/27/2021 Gyanendra Sharma - NPTI Delhi 74

 The module provides for dynamic screens to enter technical

particulars of different facilities as per the utility practice.
 Provides effective maintenance management of various
equipment connected in the electrical network.
 Provides flexibility to modify the maintenance schedules and
also add new facilities.
 Provides reports on the historical information, present status of
maintenance works carried out on the facilities.
 This module monitors the outage occurred on different facilities
and the repair/restoration work carried out on the facilities.
Also enables to monitor the amount spent on a particular device
towards repairs.

Fault Localisation

 On the occurrence of a fault on a radial distribution feeder, this

function finds out the section in which the fault has occurred.
 Method of identification of faulty section is to identify and open
the switch that divides the feeder into two nearly equal lengths
and charge the feeder from substation which determines, which
half of the feeder is faulty.
 This process of sectionalizing of faulty length of feeder and test
charging to determine which part is faulty is repeated till the
faulty region between two consecutive switches is identified.

03/27/2021 Gyanendra Sharma - NPTI Delhi 83

Supply Restoration

Features
 Isolation of Fault: Program searches for switches in all
directions from the both end nodes of faulty section. It gives a
list of switches available for isolating the switches.
 Searching for alternate routes: Program takes one dark area at
a time and searches for alternate routes for extending supply to
it. It is repeated till all the dark areas are completed.
 Determining optimum route: Out of the alternate route list,
program finds out the optimum route based on substation
capacity.
 Displaying network changes: The changes in network are
displayed dynamically. The faulty area, the restored area, the
dark area, switches opened and switches closed are displayed in
different colors.
