Robin Doherty Candidate Statement

I decided to run for Danvers School Committee because education has always been a passion
of mine. For the last 15 years, I have been an educator in the most diverse high school in the
state: Malden High School. I have taught college preparatory classes, co-taught special
education, and honors level English. Over the years, I have been a guest lecturer at Salem
State University and led my district in professional development devoted to differentiation.  I will
bring the passion of teaching and my expertise to the Danvers School Committee for the benefit
of all its students.

I am running for Danvers School Committee because I believe communication, collaboration,

and strong curricula will help our school system move from good to great. I am the only
candidate who is a graduate of the Danvers Public Schools. I am a lifelong resident of Danvers
and I have contributed to our community in many ways. Recently I collaborated on and provided
comments to the Danvers Public Schools Strategic 2018-2023 Plan. I currently serve as the
Smith School Council Community Representative. I am finishing my doctoral degree in
education with a concentration in teaching and learning. Now, I want to bring an even more
positive contribution to the school system and advocate, which is why I am running for School
Committee.

I saw challenges facing our school district prior to COVID-19 and saw more come to light during
the pandemic: reentry social-emotional learning and academic pandemic support, school culture
and climate, academic achievement for all students, and collaboration among all stakeholders.
It is critical that the school district works with families, teachers, and administration to create
reentry pandemic social-emotional and academic tools and supports.  A plan must be in place
that provides benchmark assessments, fosters feedback, and is readjusted when needed.
Open dialogue and transparency must be part of this process.  My experience as an educator
and my experience observing public school districts across Massachusetts have given me the
tools required to create these plans, assess progress, and analyze student data.

To move the school district from good to great, it is imperative that the district’s initiatives are
consistently reviewed to ensure the learning outcomes are met. Personalized learning for the
students who struggle the most in partnership with our most advanced learners provides
opportunities for success so that all our children can reach their learning potential and graduate
with career and college readiness skills. Collaboration is key. The Administration, families,
educators, and the Danvers Community need to work together to provide solutions that have
our students’ best interests in mind.

I look forward to speaking with many of you prior to the election on May 4th. If you have any
