QUICK INSTALL for

µSPEED & µSPEED-smartsensor systems
For installation of µSPEED smartsensor systems please take the following criteria into consideration. The green
check mark shows the correct or ideal way of installation. The red cross shows the wrong or the critical way.
The orange check mark signalizes restrictions. Please use additionally our manual for information and do not
hesitate to contact our service directly in case of questions. File version: 18.08.07

to avoid that an operator looks

9. ISOLATION

Please take care for an isolated assembly of the sensor head. Therefore a plastic isolation panel and plastic
screws are delivered with the system.

10. GROUNDING

A grounding of the sensor head tube has to be provided especially in the production of film and foil and other
products which might be electrostatic charged. For grounding the sensor head tube (see Pos. 7) has to be
connected to the machine grounding. In that case the tube has to be mounted with an isolation plate and plastic
screws (will be delivered on demand) to the sensor head.

11. TEMPERATURE

The permanent temperature in the surrounding of the sensor head has to be between 10°C < temp-SKSoll <
40°C. Alternatively, if the temperature range is different in your production, please ask for special µSpeed
version (up to 50°C) or for special housing (including air conditioning).

12. INTERFERING ELECTRICAL FIELDS

The device should not be installed near to strong interfering electrical fields. Do not install the sensor cable near
to frequency converters or motor controls e.g.

13. OPTICAL DEVICE

Do avoid shock or impact against the sensor system because that may badly effect the system calibration.

14. START – STOP PROCESSES

For high accuracy at frequent production start and stop please use the following systems: µSPEED-smart-PRO
or µSPEED + IMP (Impulse Processing) unit together with an external encoder. The encoder may be actuated
by contact wheel or by the machine.

15. CHANGE OF DIRECTIONS

To correctly measure length at change of the moving direction of the production material, please use the
following systems: µSPEED-smart-PRO or µSPEED + IMP (Impulse Processing) unit together with an external
encoder. The encoder may be actuated by contact wheel or by the machine.

16. LOW SPEED MEASUREMENT

To measure starting from 0m/min please use the following systems: µSPEED-smart-PRO or µSPEED + IMP
(Impulse Processing) unit together with an external encoder. The encoder may be actuated by contact wheel or
by the machine.

17. LENGTH OF SENSOR CABLE

The standard length for the µSPEED smartsensor cable connecting the sensor head to an electrical cabinet is
12m. Please order longer cable lengths if necessary. Max. cable length: approx. 1000m. The µSPEED can be
equipped with a maximum cable length of 12m between sensor head and processing unit.
