Direction: Answer the following questions base in your Google Classroom “Video Lesson”
Noli  Me tangere. 

1. What do the characters Ibarra and Elías represent in the

novel?

The two characters represent Rizal’s two-opposing

means that he wishes to analyze. The first one is socio-

political change brought by the legal means and civilized

discourse by the wealthy, liberally educated young man raised

to question civil authority but not cause social discord whom is

Crisostomo Ibarra. The second is socio-political change

brought about abruptly by force and, quite possibly,

bloodshed, as embodied by Elías, the vagabond revolutionary

seeking to recruit the disenfranchised to his cause.

2. Is Tasio a figure to be admired? Why or why not? 


Yes, Tasio lives unconcerned by what others think of him and is an

independent thinker, which is clearly one of his most admirable traits.

3. Compare and Contrast Father Damaso and Father Salvi.

Both of them are considered as the villain in the Novel. The difference is that

Father Damaso appeared to be open with his villainous acts which is primarily

opposing the Ibarras, on the second hand, Father Salvi, as new chapter unfolds, he

appeared to be even more evil due to his lustful act on Maria Clara.

4. What does the novel say about revenge? 

Based on the novel, revenge is a deadly thing to execute. The different

characters showed various pursuit when it comes to revenge, but, Elias being the

best man og himself, he refused to take his deadly revenge, he resist the

temptation and diverted his focus to other things.

5. What does the character of Captain Tiago say about colonialism?

In the novel, Captain Tiago is successful and the way he accepts people depends

on his fellow people, which he considers as “indios”. Having that said, he’s

successful, he tend to have that sense of loyalty.

6. Is Noli Me Tángere anti-Catholic or anti-religion? Why or why not?


No, most of the characters in the novel portrays religious characters.

Additionally, the novel does not oppose Christianity or any other religion, instead it

is focused in corruption of power during that time.

7. Do you think Rizal portrays education as the solution to oppression? Why or

why not? 

We know how much Rizal studied just to oppress the colonizers but he

knows for a fact that education alone isn’t enough to be the key way to move

away from the oppression. But education helped him realize and see the fault

and lapses in the Philippine society, from school systems to the upper.

8. Why does Sisa die at the end of the novel? 

Sisa dies due to shock, she had a trauma that was too much for her to

bear. She’s probably overwhelmed by happenings in her situation.

9. What is the "cancer" that the title alludes to? 

The cancer being referred to in the novel is the corruption of the catholic

church during the Spanish empire. The priests namely Father Damaso and

Father Salvi illustrates corruption in the novel.

10.Do you think Rizal portrays education as the solution to oppression? Why or why

not? 
We know how much Rizal studied just to oppress the colonizers but he

knows for a fact that education alone isn’t enough to be the key way to move

away from the oppression. But education helped him realize and see the fault

and lapses in the Philippine society, from school systems to the upper.
