5.EQUIPMENT AND REAGENTS

5.1.RIGID POLYVINYL CHLORIDE TANK
With lid and equipped with a mechanism of thermoregulation (see Appendices 1 and 2).

5.2.GRADUATED THERMOMETER
From 0 to 100 °C, with a tolerance of 0.5 °C.

5.3.MEANS OF WIPING
Lint-free soft rag or Absorbent paper.
5.4.DEIONIZED WATER
Resistivity greater than or equal to 200 000 Ω/cm (conductivity ≤ 5µS.cm).

6.REPRESENTATIVENESS OF THE SAMPLES

The test specimens or samples have to be representative of the scale to be characterised. To provide this
representativeness, it is necessary to find out the basic characteristics of the population studied. The selection
criteria for the test specimens or samples must be specified in the Test Report (RE), in conformity with norm
A10 0156.
In case of doubt about sampling, contact the PSA Department DQI/DCHM/PMXP/PEI/AFPF in order to know the
instructions to follow.

7.PREPARATION OF THE TEST PLATES OR PARTS

Panels or parts coated with the product(s) to be tested; the rated surface has to have dimensions about 1 dm².

CONDITIONING OF TEST PLATES

The test-plates air conditioned at 23 °C  2 °C and 50 %  5 % of relative humidity during:
 7 days in the case of paints with air drying or low-temperature curing,
 24 hours in the case of paints with high-temperature curing.

8.PROCEDURE
 Fill the tank with deionized water (5.4.) (It is needed that the level re-covers panels about ¾), turn on the device;
regulate it at its operating rate (40 °C  1 °C).
 Introduce the test-panels inside the tank and close the lid.
 Examine the test-panels after immersion time envisaged by the guideline document.
 For the test, wipe quickly the test-panels, without rubbing, with the soft rag (5.3.).
 After 1 hour of stay at 23 °C  2 °C and 50%  5% of relative humidity, carry out:
 The blistering and color deviation rating according to the indications of paragraph 11.
 The paint adhesion test in accordance with the test method D25 1075.

9.REMARKS
Not applicable.

10.EXPRESSION OF RESULTS
10.1.BLISTERING AND COLOUR DEVIATION RATING
For blistering, the score are performed using the production of 16 photographs (coming from standard
ASTM D 714) annexed of the test method D27 1571 with the below classification:

0: Deterioration lower than F8 (is allowed the visible micro-blistering only under one given angle) or low
color deviation reversible by slight friction with the rag (5.3.) less than 6 hours after the end of test.
1: Cut F8 or non-reversible color deviation, 6 hours after the end of test.
2: Sizes M8 and F6.
3: Sizes and densities other as above.
4: Degradation more important than D2.

The observation of color deviation is carried out in light-box according to the method D15 5504.
The expression of the result has to take into account rating and index of photography materializing the
deterioration.
Example : Rating 3 (M4).
Note:  To not consider of a localized deterioration if relative surface concerned is lower than 5% of total
surface or if an incidental character (finger marks) is definitely detectable.
 To not consider of a color deviation for any paint not having a functionality of appearance.

10.2.GRADING OF THE GRIP

This rating is carried out in accordance with the test method D25 1075, paragraph 11.

11.TEST REPORT
The form and the minimal contents of the test report are defined in the standard A10 0156.
In addition to the got results, the test report must indicate:
 The reference of this method,
 The identification of the operator and used test equipment,
 The date of test,
 The operational details not envisaged in the method as well as the possible incidents likely to have acted on
the results.
