1.1 General Description:

This method statement describes the typical construction procedures for Piling Works for

Procedures contained herein may be reviewed periodically and modified based on actual
requirement on site.

2.0 CONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE

2.1 Survey Setting Out


• Licensed surveyor shall carry out the setting out works according to the construction
drawing
• Site Supervisor must ensure the piling points setting out peg are properly installed

2.2 Pile Production


• Site supervisors to ensure the materials used and spacing of steel bars and links
comply with specification

2.3 Material Incoming Checklist


• Site supervisors to ensure that the R.C. square piles delivered to site comply with to
the specification. (E.g. Hooks, size and etc.)
• Site supervisors to check for crack and bend of the R.C. piles supplied
• Site supervisors to ensure the R.C. piles are properly unloaded by crane operator
• Site supervisors to ensure that the R.C. piles are placed on adequate supports located
under the lifting point of the pile

2.4 Pile Test


Test pile will be carried out according to the location given by the C&S consultants.
The PDA Test Report and the Static Load Test Report (with Professional Engineer
endorsement) prepared by a specialist company will be submitted to Consultant for
approval.

2.4.1 PDA Test


• Pile Driving Analyzer (PDA test) will be carried out by a specialist
company to check the pile capacity and pile integrity witness by the Clerk
of Works. 40 numbers of the PDA Test shall be carried out according to
specification requirement.

2.4.2 Static Load Test


• Static Load Test will be carried by using Maintained Load Test Method.
Six (6) number of Load Test shall be carried out accordingly to
specification requirement.
• Twice of the working load for 200mm x 200mm R.C. square pile to be
applied to the pile during the test. The compression test will be carried out
using the Kentledges by a specialist company
2.5 Pitching & Handling
• Site supervisors to ensure proper handling of R.C piles to be carried out during the
pitching of piles by the piling rig operators

2.6 Driving of Pile


• Site supervisors to ensure the verticality of the pile by using tripod (min. 2 side at
90°.)
• Site supervisors to ensure the hammers used comply with specification.
• Site supervisors to ensure the plywood backing to be replaced regularly
• Site supervisors to ensure the piles are driven accurately to positions according to the
surveyor setting out pegs. (Not exceeding 75mm from the centre)

2.7 Welding
• Site supervisors to ensure that welding to the R.C. piles joint is done according to
drawing specification and paint properly by using anti- corrosion paint.

2.8 Set Measurement


• Site supervisors shall submit the pile driving records to the Consultant Engineer for
verification.
• Clerk of works shall witness the final set measurement.

2.9 As-Built Drawing


• Licensed surveyor will carry out the as built piles position at cut off level by using
Electronic Total Station.
• Consultant Engineer will redesign the pile caps and column stumps size for pile
deviation which is greater than 75mm.
• The As-Built drawings for pile position will be prepared and certified by the licensed
surveyor for submission to Consultant
3.0 SAFETY AND HEALTH

3.1 Safety and Health Requirements

The following key areas of construction shall be adhered by all site personnel working at
site:

a) Personnel Protective Equipment


The personnel protective equipment (PPE) which will be provided to the workers onsite
including the following:-
• Safety helmet
• Safety vest
• Safety boots

b) House keeping
Housekeeping is essential part of safety for the daily routine. Housekeeping would
include the following items:
• Maintain excess/egress to all working area
• Store and Stack al construction materials in safe and orderly manner
• No littering around the site.

3.2 Information to Personnel

• All new workers and staffs are to attend the Safety Induction Course before
commencing works at site.
• All personnel will wear safety helmet, safety vest and safety boots.
• All workers to attend the weekly toolbox meetings held at site.
• Any unsafe acts or conditions are to be identified and corrected promptly or
referred to the respective supervisor.
• Any accident or incidents are to be reported immediately so preventive action can
be taken to prevent re-occurrence.
• All construction workers and staff members will be briefed on the importance
of monitoring on site safety by the Safety Manager.

3.3 Emergency Arrangement

3.3.1 The actual potential emergency situation may arise during


the construction works are:

• Fire,

• Gas or Electrical Hazard


• Explosion

• Accident due to Equipment Failure

• Escape of Combustible or Toxic Material

• Soil movement

• Major traffic accident when mobilisation &


demobilisation of machineries.

3.3.2 An Emergency Response and Communication Team shall


be formed at the site.
3.3.3 The organization Chart, list of emergency contact person, and relevant
authorities with their contact numbers shall be showed in the notice boards.

3.3.4 In the event of emergency, the site management staffs must evaluate the
situation and commence the necessary procedures as follows:

1) Raise the alarm


2) Stop Works
3) Remain Composed
4) Make sure that the notifications of emergency or evacuation are in
place for all workers surrounding the vicinity
5) Make sure all workers are assembled at designated assembly point.
6) Make sure all first aid kits are prepared at assembly point.
7) All workers are told not to leave the assembly point until clear sign
is issued.
8) Headcount shall be conducted.
9) First aiders shall attend the injured workers
10) Prepare assessment reports for the losses.
