(100% merino; 100g / 370 m / 400 y)
We used –
Colour A: Slate (75 g)
Colour B: Clair de Lune (60 g)
Colour C: White Sands (45 g)

needles
4.5 mm (US 7) 24” circular knitting needles
or size needed to obtain gauge
Tapestry needle

27 stitches and 27 rows in 1:1 rib using
4.5 mm needles with yarn double-stranded.

Cast on 64 stitches

FRONT FLAP

Worked flat with Colour A double-stranded.


Row 1: ktbl 1, (p1, k1) to last stitch, sl1 wyf.
Repeat Row 1 for 29 more rows, cut yarn and set front flap aside.

BACK FLAP

Repeat as per front flap but do not cut yarn after completing last row (Row 30).

Assemble front and back flaps together in the round as follows…

Put both flaps on a 24-inch circular needle.

Row 31: Put the last stitch of the back flap on a cable needle to the front of work, purl the first stitch of the front
flap, put stitch from cable needle back onto the left needle and knit, place a marker, (p1, k1) to last stich of front
flap, put the last stitch of the front flap on a cable needle to the front of work, purl the first stitch of the back flap,
put stitch from cable needle back onto the left needle and knit, (p1, k1) until you reach marker. (128 sts on needle)

Rows 32 – 33: Continue 1:1 rib stitch pattern with Colour A.

Rows 34 – 56 (22 rows): Cut one strand of Colour A and join one strand of Colour B. Continue in 1:1 rib pattern.

Rows 57 – 75 (18 rows): Cut second strand of Colour A and join a second strand of Colour B. Continue in 1:1 rib
pattern.

Row 76 – 94 (18 rows): Cut one strand of Colour B and join one strand of Colour C. Continue in 1:1 rib pattern.

Row 95 – 113 (18 rows): Cut second strand of Colour B colour and join the second strand of Colour C. Continue in
1:1 rib pattern.

Bind off all stitches using the 1x1 Tubular Bind Off method…

With RS facing and using current needle and another circular needle of the same size held behind, separate the
knit and purl stitches from each other as follows: slip the knit stitches onto the front needle, slip the purl stitches
onto the back needle. Repeat until all stitches are separated. Now with the knit stitches all on the front needle and
the purl stitches all on the back needle proceed as for the Kitchener stitch.

Sew in ends and block lightly.

technique
KITCHENER STITCH

Set up:

On the needle in front, go through the first stitch as if to purl. Do not pull the stitch off the needle.
On the needle in back, go through the first stitch as if to knit. Do not pull the stitch off the needle.

Now proceed with instructions below.

Grafting:

Step 1: On the front needle, go through the first stitch as if to knit. Pull the stitch off the needle.
Step 2: Still on the front needle, go through the [new] first stitch as if to purl. Do not pull the stitch off the needle.
Step 3: On the back needle, go through the first stitch as if to purl. Pull the stitch off the needle.
Step 4: Still on the back needle, go through the [new] first stitch as if to knit. Do not pull the stitch off the needle.

Repeat these four steps until you have one stitch left on each needle.

To finish:

On the front needle, go through the first stitch as if to knit. Pull the stitch off the needle.
On the back needle, go through the first stitch as if to purl. Pull the stitch off the needle.
