The nasopharyngeal and oropharyngeal swab tests for Mrs. Nimisha Tiwari were negative for COVID-19. A negative test does not completely rule out infection and should not be the sole basis for treatment. The test has a lower detection limit of 6 copies/μl and Ct values should not be used to determine severity according to ICMR guidelines. Coronavirus disease 2019 is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus which spreads between people during close contact and may present as asymptomatic, mild, or severe disease with common symptoms including fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

MOLECULAR DIAGNOSTICS
*COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR

SPECIMEN : Nasopharyngeal & Oropharyngeal Swab

RESULT : NEGATIVE

INTERPRETATION:
RESULT REMARKS
Positive RNA specific to SARS-CoV-2 Detected
Negative RNA specific to SARS-CoV-2 Not Detected
Inconclusive No result can be concluded. Repeat sample is recommended.

NOTE:

1. ICMR Lab Registration number for COVID-19 RT-PCR is DSSDUCPD.

2. This test is performed using ICMR approved kit.
3. A negative test result does not rule out COVID-19 infection completely and should not be used as the sole basis for patient management
decisions. Presence of inhibitors, mutations & insufficient viral RNA can influence the test result.
4. These test results must be interpreted in combination with clinical history and examination, epidemiological factors and findings of other
relevant investigations.
5. Lower limit of detection of this kit is 6 copies/µl.
6. This is a qualitative test. The Ct values do not provide a measure of viral load due to inherent variability in sampling and kits. According to
ICMR guidelines Ct values should not be used to gauge the severity of the disease.

BACKGROUND:
Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). It
was first identified in December 2019 in Wuhan, China. The virus is primarily spread between people during close contact, most often via small
droplets produced by coughing, sneezing, and talking. It may also spread by contact with infected surfaces and objects. Incubation period is
estimated to be 2-14 days. Infection may manifest as asymptomatic, mild or severe disease. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are
fever, tiredness, dry cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. Some patients may have aches and pains, loss of sense of smell or
taste, nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat or diarrhea.
