GOODLUCK!
1.) What is the expected head loss per mile of a closed circular pipe with 17
in. inside diameter, friction factor of 0.03 when 3300 gal/min of water flow
under pressure? (10 points)
4.) The design of a city water supply system is shown in the figure. Reservoir
A needs to supply 0.0938 m3/s to lower reservoir B and C. Pipe 1 is 300 m
diameter and 900 m long, pipe 2 is 200 mm diameter and 387 m long, and
pipe 3 is 200 mm diameter and 700 m long. The roughness coefficient for all
pipes is 0.011. Determine the following:
a) Flow rate of Pipe 2 in m3/s. (10 points)
b) Flow rate of Pipe 3 in m3/s. (10 points)
c) Elevation (m) of water surface in reservoir A to supply the needed
flow rate. (10 points)
5.) Water with a discharge of 750 liters/sec flows through a pipe having a
diameter of 400 mm and length of 65 m. Compute the head loss of the
pipeline using:
a) Darcy-Weisbach Formula with f=0.012 (5 points)
b) Hazen-William’s Formula with C=100 (5 points)

6.) Pipes from three reservoirs meet at point C which is at elevation 366 m.
Assume all pipes are PVC, with Hazen Williams C = 150. Pressure at point
C is 18.3 psi. Find the head loss of pipeline x. (20 points)
Pipeline Diameter (in) Length (ft)

y 8 4000
z 12 5000
