L I. LEARNING SKILL
At the end of this activity, you are expected to illustrate the six trigonometric
ratios: sine, cosine, tangent, secant, cosecant, and cotangent.
In ∆𝐴𝐵𝐶,
let 𝜃 (theta) be ∠𝐵, the reference
angle,
b be the opposite side of 𝜃,
a be the adjacent side of 𝜃, and
c be the the hypothenuse.

SOH – CAH – TOA is a mnemonic used for remembering the ratios and its
meaning.
Take note that cosecant is the reciprocal of sine, secant is the reciprocal of
cosine and cotangent is the reciprocal of tangent. The hypotenuse will never vary in
its location however, the opposite and adjacent sides will be determined by the
reference angle (𝜃).
Examples
Using the figure below, what are the values of the six trigonometric ratios of angle 𝜃 ?
a.
Given are the sides of a triangle:
a = 12, b = 5 and c = 13
Since the lengths of the three sides are known,
the values of the trigonometric ratios are:
