CHAPTER 1
THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTINGS

1.1 Background of the Study

Public transportation in many countries is being used as a means

of transport for travelling and accordingly people would prefer these

public transportation to be scheduled properly, on time and the

frequency be increased for commuters to make good use of it. It is

necessary for every organizations and individuals to track the vehicle.

People will monitor and track the Buses with the help of our Android app

using GPS which will save the time. Our Application also consist of E-

wallet for ticketing system. This Cashless Transaction will not only help

the Individual but also the Bus Organization [1].

Super Five Bus Transport Incorporated (Super Five) is a bus

company based in Iligan City, Philippines. Super Five Transport was

established on May 5, 1987, by Paul Padayhag of Iligan City. It first

served the Cagayan–Iligan–Pagadian route using Philippines-made

Mercedes-Benz buses. Years later, they added Cagayan–Iligan–Ozamiz–

Dipolog and Cagayan–Valencia–Wao routes.

The general problem that the bus transport encounters using the

manual system it is hassle free processing prices and location,

overcharging passenger and passengers fare evasion.

The researchers come up this study to develop mobile application

tracking and ticketing system. That can easily to handle and less hassle

for the customer. This system show the process of buying a ticket, also

bus driver location using the system and the admin who assign the

schedule of location of the bus driver.

1.2 Statement of the problem

The researchers found out that the common problem in Super Five

Bus Station are the following:

 Bus driver hassle free processing prices & location.

 Overcharging passenger.

 Passengers fare evasion.

1.3 Objectives of the study

The objective of this study is to design and develop a Mobile

Application for Bus Tracking & Ticketing System. These are the following

objectives:

 Cashless Travel using a mobile phone for purchasing ticket

prices & location.

 Real time location tracker will help passenger in their travel

and time management.

 Improve Safety - fleet managers will know exactly where a

vehicle is if it requires any assistance. Whether it’s a broken

down engine or any emergency situation, fleet managers can

send roadside assistance to help their driver.

1.4 Scope and Delimitation of the study

This study only focuses on Super Five Bus Transportation

Mobile Application for Bus Tracking & Ticketing System. The system

can only be used by customer, bus driver and admin. The system can

demonstrate the process of mobile application tracking and ticketing

system. In tracking system the customer can spot the location of the

bus, also the admin can assign a schedule for location for the bus

drivers. In ticketing system the customer can purchase a ticket

through using the mobile phones and the process of payments of the

ticket using G-Cash. The passenger need to register and login in order

to access the process of transactions. The bus driver and admin is

need to log in, so that they can access the system.

1.5 Significance of the study

This study is conducted to benefit the following:

Customer – This study will help the customer to understand the process

about mobile application tracking and ticketing system.

Bus Driver – This study will help the bus driver to know the schedule of

the location that been given by the admin and attendance for the bus

driver.

bus driver and the schedules of the bus driver.

Researcher – This study will help the researchers to know more about

the process of the bus station using the mobile application tracking and

ticketing system.

Future Researcher – This research will help the future researcher as

their source of guide in creating an mobile application for tracking and

ticketing system and to understand more about the tracking and

ticketing system at Super Five Bus Transport.
