Exercise 2.a

1. Can the engineer manager avoid making decision? Justify your answer.
They may, in fact, avoid having to make a management decision. Since the engineer
manager made that decision as well, but these types of managers are risky and should be
withdrawn from their positions as soon as possible.

2. When a problem becomes apparent and the engineer manager chooses to ignore it, is he
making a decision? Explain.
Actually, as a manager, that makes decisions and is able to take responsibility. The
engineer manager decided to disregard the dilemma because he thought it was too difficult to
solve.

3. Why is proper diagnosis of the problem important?

If a manager wishes to make an informed decision, the first step he must take is to
diagnose the situation, and if he fails to do so, it is impossible for him to succeed in the following
stages of decision-making.

4. What are the components of the environment from the point of view of the decision maker?
What do they consist of?
The internal and external environment. Internal environment consists of Organizational,
Marketing, Personnel, Production, and Financial Aspects. In the external aspect, its consists of the
government, engineers, labor unions, suppliers, banks, public, competitors and clients.

5. How may one develop viable alternatives in problem solving?

To start, make a list of alternative solutions. Determine the feasibility of each solution
after that. Finally, go over the list and mark off those that aren't viable.

6. Why is it important for those who will be involved in implementation to understand and
accept the solution to the problem?
Since it is crucial for the manager to ensure performance and provide reference for better
decision-making, it must be ensured that the approach chosen for implementation is consistent
with the goals and targets originally defined.

7. What are the approaches in solving problem?

There are two types of evaluation: qualitative and quantitative. The former refers to
evaluations that are based on intuition and subjective judgment, while the latter refers to
evaluations that are based on logical and empirical methods.
8. What quantitative techniques are useful in decision making?
1.Inventory models
2. Queuing theory
3. Network models
4. forecasting
5. Regression analysis
6. Simulation
7. Linear programming
8. Sampling theory
9. Statistical decision theory

9. What is the purpose of Bayesian Analysis?

Bayesian analysis is used to revise and update initial estimates of event probabilities produced
by alternative solutions.

10. Provide an illustration of how Bayesian Analysis is used.

Spectral analysis is an important method for studying stellar properties that has been in
widespread use for decades. The methods considered for performing this type of analysis, on the
other hand, are mostly based on iteration among a few diagnostic lines to determine the stellar
parameters.

Although these methods are often simple and fast, the necessary assumptions can lead to errors
and large uncertainties.
