COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
CNCM 110 (NCM 100) THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS IN NURSING – This course

deals with the meta concepts of a person, health, environment and nursing as viewed by the
different theorists. Likewise, it includes non-nursing theories such as systems, developmental
and change theories. It presents how these concepts and theories serve as guide to nursing
practice. It further deals with health as a multifactorial phenomenon and the necessary core
competencies that the nurse need to develop.
CNCM 101 (NCM 101) HEALTH ASSESSMENT – The course deals with concepts,
principles & techniques of history taking using various tools, physical examination (head to toe),
psychosocial assessment and interpretation of laboratory findings to arrive at a nursing diagnosis
on the client across the lifespan in community and hospital settings.
CNCM 122 (NCM 102) HEALTH EDUCATION – The course includes discussions of
health education concepts, principles, theories and strategies as they apply in the clinical and
classroom situations.
CNCM 133 (NCM 103) FUNDAMENTALS OF NURSING PRACTICE – This course

provides the students with the overview of nursing as a science, an art and a profession. It deals
with the concept of man as holistic being comprised of bio-psycho-socio and spiritual
dimensions. It includes a discussion on the different roles of a nurse emphasizing health

promotion, maintenance of health as well as prevention of illness utilizing the nursing process. It
includes the basic nursing skills needed in the care of individual clients.
CNCM 134 (NCM 104) COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING (INDIVIDUAL AND
FAMILY AS CLIENTS) – This course focuses on the care of community as individual and
family as clients utilizing concepts and principles in community health development. It also
describes problems, trends and issues in the Philippine and global health care systems affecting
community health nursing practice.
CNCM 215 (NCM 105) NUTRITION AND DIET THERAPHY – This course deals with
the study of food in relation to health. It covers nutrients and other substances and their action,
and interaction and balance in relation to health and diseases and the process by which organism
ingests, digests, absorbs, transports, utilizes and excretes food substances. It will also focus in the
therapeutic and food substances. It will also focus in the therapeutic and food service aspects of
the delivery of nutritional services in hospitals and other healthcare institutions.
CNCM 216 (NCM 106) PHARMACOLOGY – This course deals with deals with
pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, clinical/therapeutic uses and toxicology of drugs.
Emphasis is given on how a drug works to anticipate when giving a drug to a patient are of
paramount importance since nursing responsibilities include administering drugs, assessing drug
effects intervening to make a drug more tolerable, and providing teaching about drugs and the
drug regimen.
CNCM 217 (NCM 107) CARE OF MOTHER, CHILD, ADOLESCENT (WELL

CLIENT) – Principles and techniques of caring for the normal mothers, infants, children and
family and the application of principles and concepts on family and family health nursing
process.
CNCM 218 (NCM 108) HEALTH CARE ETHICS – This course deals with the application
of ethico-moral and legal concepts and principles to issues that affect the practice of nursing.
These provide the basis for appropriate decision making given varied situations, to prepare the
learner to render effective, efficient and safe nursing care. Furthermore, related learning
experiences provide opportunities to concretize commitment to nursing. The critical thinking
process shall be used in the unit with the object to develop the intellectual capacity to
conceptualize and contextualize what students know to particular ethico-moral and legal issues.
CNCM 229 (NCM 109) CARE OF MOTHER AND CHILD AT-RISK OR WITH
PROBLEMS (ACUTE AND CHRONIC) – This course deals with the concept of disturbances
& pre-existing health problem of pregnancy women and the pathologic changes during intra
partum and post-partum periods. This course further deals with the common problems occurring
during infancy to adolescence stage.
CNCM 220 (NCM 110) NURSING INFORMATICS – This course deals with the use of
information technology system and data standards based on nursing informatics
principles/theories. It further deals with the utilization of clinical information systems in the
management and decision-making of patient care. A laboratory session shall be provided for
practice application.

CNCM 213 (NCM 111) THESIS I – This course is an introductory course intended to equip
the nursing students with concepts, principles in research starting from an overview of the major
phases of the research process. The course will include discussion from formulation to
dissemination of research findings, focus on the formulation of a research problem to the
selection of the research design, planning and choosing the appropriate research tool for data
gathering. This course will require the group of student to present a research proposal to apply
knowledge and demonstrate skills and attitude in the conceptual, design and planning phases of
the research process.
CNCM 312 (NCM 112) CARE OF CLIENTS WITH PROBLEMS IN OXYGENATION,

FLUID AND ELECTRLYTE, INFECTIOUS, INFLAMMATORY AND IMMUNOLOGIC
RESPONSE, CELLULAR ABERRATION, ACUTE AND CHRONIC – This course deals
with the principles and techniques of nursing care management of sick clients across lifespan
with emphasis on the adult person and population group in any setting with alterations/problems
in oxygenation, fluid and electrolyte balance, infectious, inflammatory and immunologic, and
cellular aberration function.
CNCM 233 (NCM 113) COMMUNITY HEALTH NURSING II (POPULATION

GROUPS AND COMMUNITY AS CLIENTS) – This course focuses on the care of
population groups and community as clients utilizing concepts and principles in community
health development. It also describes problems, trends and issues in the Philippine and global
health care systems affecting community health nursing practice.
CNCM 314 (NCM 114) CARE OF OLDER PERSON – This course deals with the
principles and techniques of nursing care management of sick older/geriatrics person in any
setting.
CNCM 315 (NCM 115) THESIS 2 – This course is a continuation of Thesis I which includes
collection of data, analysis, interpretation, summary and conclusion and recommendation.
Advising is done throughout the practicum sessions. The course will provide the student/group
an opportunity to undergo the final research defense process to appreciate data gathering, analyze
and interpret study results disseminate the findings and make recommendations based on the
results of their respective studies.
CNCM 326 (NCM 116) CARE OF CLIENTS WITH PROBLEMS IN NUTRITION AND
GI METABOLISM AND ENDOCRINE, PERCEPTION AND COORDINATION,
ACUTE AND CHRONIC – This course deals with the principles and techniques of nursing
care management of sick clients across lifespan with emphasis on the adult, population group in
any setting with alterations/problems in nutrition, gastrointestinal, metabolism and endocrine,
perception and coordination function.
CNCM 327 (NCM 117) CARE OF CLIENTS WITH MALADAPTIVE PATTERNS OF

BEHAVIOR, ACUTE AND CHRONIC – The course is design to focus on health and illness
across the lifespan of clients, population group with acute and chronic psychosocial difficulties
and psychiatric illnesses.

CNCM 418 (NCM 118) NURSING CARE OF CLIENTS WITH LIFE THREATENING
CONDITIONS/ACUTELY ILL/MULTI-ORGAN PROBLEMS/HIGH ACUITY AND
EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, ACUTE AND CHRONIC – This course deals with the
principle and technique of nursing care management of sick client across the lifespan with
emphasis on the adult with life threatening conditions, acutely ill/multi-organ problems including
emergency situations.
CNCM 419 (NCM 119) NURSING LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT – Application

of concepts, principles, theories and methods of management and leadership, as well as, the
ethico-moral, legal and professional responsibilities of a nurse. The students are expected to
perform beginning professional management and leadership skills, and apply sound ethico-moral
and legal decision-making in the hospital and community-based settings. Students are likewise
expected to comply to the professional standards of nursing practice.
CNCM 410 (NCM 120) DECENT WORK EMPLOYMENT AND TRANSCULTURAL

NURSING – This course deals with concepts and principles on transcultural nursing and descent
work employment information.
CNCM 421 (NCM 121) DISASTER NURSING – This course deals with the application of
principles and techniques of first aid, triage, and disaster nursing.
CNCM 422 (NCM 122) INTENSIVE NURSING PRACTICUM (HOSPITAL AND

COMMUNITY SETTINGS) – Actual application of the theories, principles and concepts of
clinical nursing practice to groups of clients in varied settings to refine nursing skills in the
different basic nursing services including community. Emphasis is placed on integrating the
multiple roles of professional nursing as a vehicle to enhance critical thinking and
communication skills.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
CGST 523 STATISTICAL TECHNIQUES – This course aims to develop understanding

and knowledge of the basic statistical methods and their application to the fields of education,
business, health and psychology. It also covers basic statistical concepts which include
descriptive and inferential methods in the analysis and interpretation of data.
CNMS 610 HUMAN BEHAVIOR IN HEALTH CARE SYSTEM – 3 units. This course
focuses on developing insights on the importance of understanding human behavior as applied in
health organization. The role of the nurse leader/manager with respect to interpersonal
relationship and productive work groups are studied. The discipline of sociology, psychology
and management are drawn upon to provide a foundation for identifying various strategies in
decision making for human caused problems in the health care setting.
CNMS 525 THEORETICAL FOUNDATIONS FOR ADVANCED NUSRING

PRACTICE – 3 units. This course deals on the systematic approach to nursing practice and the
development of nursing science through the use of different nursing theories.
CNMS 510 ADVANCED HEALTH ASSESSMENT – 3 units. This course focuses on the
introduction to the theory and practice of a systemic holistic assessment throughout the life span.
Practice in history taking and the total physical examination are required. Normal physical
findings will be differentiated and history taking in the delivery of quality health is examined.
CNMS 630 HEALTH POLICY, ISSUES AND PROCESS – 3 units. This course is an
investigation of the current health issues and policies affecting the health care system as well as
nursing care practice of today and the future.
CNMS 530 LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT IN NURSING EDUCATION AND

HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONS – 3 units. This course gives the student a foundation in the
theories of leadership and management. Concepts on organization structure, management and
leadership skills management process, followership, conflict resolution, team building,
management of change, sources/types of power and the implication of societal trends are also
discussed. The student is guided through the steps in which these theories could be applied in
nursing and health care system.
CNMS 511 ADULT AND AGING I – 3 units. This course focuses on health problems and
their corresponding pathophysiological processes as well as appropriate nursing treatments. The
emphasis on the nursing process as the basis of professional nursing is further stressed.
CNMS 511 GROWING FAMILY I – 3 units. This course reviews the nursing process as the
basis of advanced professional practice. It focuses on the problems associated with the
pathophysiological processes as well as appropriate nursing interventions experienced by the
growing family during the childbearing years.

CNMS 522 ADULT AND AGING II – 3 units. A seminar and practicum course focusing on
the varied roles of advanced practice nurse. Clinical practice includes application of a chosen
theory as framework for nursing practice and development of competencies as outlines or the
different roles of an advanced practice nurse.
CNMS 522 GROWING FAMILY II – 3 units. A seminar and practicum course focusing on
the varied roles of an advanced practice nurse during the childrearing years It focuses on the
health problems of childhood including illness and hospitalization with emphasis on minimizing
psychosocial trauma and promoting development.
CNMS 613 ADULT AND AGING III – 3 units. This course provides opportunity for the
student to develop competence of an advanced practice nurse among adults and elderly clients by
applying the various function roles in her/his practice of a selected health care agency.
CNMS 613 GROWING FAMILY III – 3 units. This course provides opportunity for the
student to develop competencies as a family health care specialist by applying the various
functional roles in his/her practice on a selected agency.
CGST 611 THESIS 1 – 3 units. This course is designed to provide students the essential
processes of writing a thesis proposal. The special emphasis centers on how to select a thesis
title, present a problem, review literature and document the materials, and identify and present
research methods appropriate to the study. The output is a thesis proposal to be defended before
a panel of experts.
CGST 622 THESIS 2 – 3 units. The student continues to develop and write the thesis under
the supervision of the adviser. When the thesis adviser determines that the student is ready to
defend the thesis, and after the panel of examiners certifies the same, an oral defense will be
scheduled to which all graduate faculty and students will be invited. The final bound copies of
the defended and approved thesis must be submitted within one semester after passing the oral
defense.
