The recent weeks that have passed challenged me to be more

flexible and adaptive to some uncertainties. I realized that the set of

activities that was prepared and was asked for me to accomplish this
prelims is pretty much similar to what I was able to pass last semester.
Compared to my situation before, I can say that I have completely
adjusted and became more accustomed in accomplishing at least one or
two activities in the modules every day. I can now balance my study
time and activity time.
The activities in the modules are the same and I appreciate that
because I still need to sharpen and improve my NCP skills and
communication skills in assessing patients. Finding a patient however is
still hard because a lot of people in our community doesn’t want to be
bothered. The two recorded group reports are one of the newest
activities included in the module. I found it hard to prepare for the
reports since I was the one who created the two Powerpoint slides.
Nevertheless, when I was working on the Powerpoint I was already
learning and gathering up ideas as I was them.
I think, one of my newly discovered strengths this prelims is that I
am totally adjusted with the current educational set-up. I no longer feel
anxious everytime I interview someone and I am becoming more
focused on creating realistic plans on my NCP. My weakness would be
the limited opportunity for me to find patients with unique conditions. I
always end up having a patient with a common condition and finding a
patient who has a respiratory condition in this time of pandemic is quite
risky. The opportunity that I was able to grab was to report and present
our chosen group topic. Lastly, one of the challenge that I have to face
throughout this semester is to retain all of the lessons that was taught to
me in the prelims.
1. As nurses, the primary responsibilities that we should apply to
patients with respiratory problems includes doing comprehensive
assessment of the patient’s condition, carrying out of independent and
dependent nursing actions without causing harm to the patient and
significant others, monitoring for adverse effects of the medications and
the possible complications of prolonged mechanical ventilation,
infection prevention, monitoring the vital signs, oxygen saturation,
comfort and rest of the patient, lastly, conduct health promotion and
disease prevention plans through health teachings for the patients and
families.

2. As a future nurse, I will help reduce the mortality rate of my patients

by doing a comprehensive assessment of their condition/s, after that I am
going to monitor their vital signs and ensure that they are controlled and
within acceptable readings, correctly position the client, prevent
complications before they arise, I will promptly administer medications
as ordered, carry out dependent and independent nursing actions as well
as notify the physician from time to time about the patient’s condition.

3. Being a Pilarist nurse, I am constantly reminded by my educators to

treat the patient as a whole and ensure that the patient maximizes his/her
abilities while being confined in the hospital. I also learned that
prevention and prompt management is the utmost concern of critical
care nurses to their patients. Applying it to my family, I will be an
advocate and I will also remind them that the conditions that make
patients end up in ICU are all preventable and while they are still young
and consider themselves healthy then they should not be engaging in
activities and practices that would make them eventually develop these
types of crippling diseases.
