1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 BACKGROUND

The objective of the water supply and sanitation project for Ethiopia is increasing access to
sustainable water supply and sanitation service as well as to increase the capacity of
participating water boarded committee and operate to effectively manage their water supply and
sanitation facilities, and to ensure that well-functioning and properly utilizing urban water
supply system and improve sanitation are in taking place for participating towns and cities. In
order to ensure the availability of sufficient quantities of good quality water, it becomes
imperative in a society, to build suitable water supply schemes, which will provide potable
water to the various sections of the community in accordance with their demands and
requirements. The Client, Amhara National Regional State Water, Irrigation and Energy
Bureau, and the Contractor, Abay Construction Enterprise, have signed an agreement to carry
out construction of Shindy No.-2 water supply project located in Wnberma woreda, weast
Gojjam zone, Amhara Region. Wenberma Woreda is one of the Woredas found in West Gojjam
Administrative Zone of the Amhara Regional State. The capital town of the woreda is Shindy
town, which is the specific project area is located at about 187kms from Bashir dar and can be
accessed by the main asphalt road from Bahir-Dar to Addis Ababa up to Burie (170 Kms) and
17 Kms further by all weathered gravel road turning to the right on Burie Town. The primary
sources of the existing water supply system found in the project area are two bore holes with
the yield of 5.25l/s and 13l/s respectively. The capacity and proximity of which is not found
suitable to meet the present demand. So that, the sustainability of potable water supply in the
area could not be guaranteed. Hence, the implementation of this project is expected to alleviate
the prevailing secured potable water supply problem and improve the living conditions of the
inhabitants. The project is expected to utilize the bore hole and transport water up to the
constructed 500m3 concrete service reservoir the water by a submersible pump and further
from which it will be distribute to consumers by gravity.

1.2 OBJECTIVE OF THE PROJECT

The main objective of the project is:-

 To increase access to sustainable water supply and sanitation service for the area.
 To improve the living standard of people living in the project area and its growing population
through the provision of adequate and safe water supply for at least for the next 20 years.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE REPORT

The main purpose of writing monthly progress report is in order to announce the achievement of
the project to the client as well as the consultant if the project is going according to the agreement
or not.

3. PROJECT STATUS
3.1. Financial status of the project

We know how to describe the construction project status either in financial or physical work.
However, most of the time, the two report methods have not a similar weightage. Since the work that
can be executed within a day will have a high cost, and the work that can be executed more than a day
will have a smaller cost. In this case, we have two different weightage. The financial status of the
project is 97.2%.

3.2. Physical work status of the project

The project status can be described as follow for the month of April.
 This month Plan of the Project:------------0.00%
 This month Achievement of the Project:--7.04%
 Previous Status of the Project:--------------89.38%

 To date Plan of the Project:----------------100%

Shindy No.-2 Water Supply Project Monthly Progress Report for the month of April. /2021 Page 3
Amhara Water, Irrigation and Energy development Bureau Amhara Design and Supervision Works Enterprise

 To date Achievement of the Project: 96.42%

 Project status = To date financial Achievement of the Project+ To date physical
Achievement of the Project/2 =(97.20+96.42)/2=96.81%
 Next month Plan of the Project:-no plan for the next month. Because the contractor
does not revise the action plan and the contractor is also in liquidated damage.
