About the In-School Program

The In-School Program of Chicago Children’s Choir offers choral training to 92 schools, serving more than 4,200
students. These programs provide children in diverse elementary and middle schools throughout Chicago with
the opportunity to participate in high-quality, in-school engagement in the arts based on the Choir’s proven
curriculum. In some cases, the Choir’s program is the only arts education offered to students within the school.
Many In-School singers join one of the Choir’s 11 after school neighborhood programs.
For more information on how to have an In-School Program in your school, contact Pam Shortall, Director of
School Programs and Special Projects, at [email protected].

Selections from
Freedom Songs: Selma, Alabama
Recorded by Carl Benkert, March 15-18, 1965, Selma, Alabama | Released by Folkways Records, 1965

Berlin Wall Oh, Freedom!

We’re gonna break this Berlin Wall, Berlin Wall, Oh, freedom, oh, freedom, oh, freedom over me,
Berlin Wall over me,
We’re gonna break this Berlin Wall in Selma, And before I’ll be a slave, I’ll be buried in my grave
Alabama And go home to my Lord and be free

We’re gonna stay here ‘til it fall, ‘til it fall, ‘til it fall No more Jim Crow, no more Jim Crow, no more Jim
We’re gonna stay here ‘til it fall in Selma, Alabama Crow over me, over me
And before I’ll be a slave, I’ll be buried in my grave
Hate is the thing that built that wall, built that wall, And go home to my Lord and be free
built that wall
Hate is the thing that built that wall in Selma,
Alabama We Shall Not Be Moved
Tell Mayor Smitherman, we shall not be moved
Love is the thing that’ll make it fall, make it fall,
make it fall
Refrain:
Love is the thing that’ll make it fall in Selma,
Just like a tree that’s planted by the water
Alabama
Oh, we shall not be moved
We’re gonna stand here ‘til it fall, ‘til it fall, ‘til it fall
All the state troopers, we shall not be moved
We’re gonna stand here ‘til it fall in Selma, Alabama
Tell Governor Wallace, we shall not be moved
Come by Here We love everybody, we shall not be moved
Come by here, my Lordy, come by here
Oh, Lord, come by here We shall not, we shall not be moved

Wallace needs you, won’t you come by here

Oh, Lord, come by here

We need you, Lordy, won’t you come by here

Oh, Lord, come by here

VOICES
$10,000 funds an In-School Program for one year. You have
the opportunity to bring music education free of charge to
students at one city school, meet their principal, and attend
their concert.

$5,000 funds one Connection Day, a special workshop that

brings together CCC students from different neighborhoods
to learn new music and choreography while forging
meaningful bonds with their CCC peers.

$2,500 funds an international tour scholarship, creating

the opportunity for a CCC singer to experience the
transformative power of travel and become an ambassador
of our city and mission.

$1,000 allows CCC to subsidize tuition for one

Neighborhood Choir singer from a low-income household.
You have the opportunity to give that student access to
a safe, nurturing after-school environment in their own
community.

$500 funds one bus trip for 50 singers to special

performance opportunities with collaborators like Ravinia
Festival and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. You have the
opportunity to make participation in special projects with
world-class artists possible for all students by removing the
transportation barrier.

$250 funds a complete uniform set for one Neighborhood

Choir singer. You have the opportunity to bring the sense of
pride and belonging that comes with wearing a CCC uniform
to a singer who otherwise could not afford it.

$100 funds one binder of music for a Voice of Chicago

singer. You have the opportunity to introduce that singer
to music in over 37 languages and from a wide range of
cultures, genres, and time periods.
Chicago Children’s Choir gratefully recognizes the cumulative
support of generous individuals and institutions who have
advanced CCC’s Raising Voices Campaign, a 3-year, $12 million
fundraising initiative to elevate the voices of Chicago’s youth.
