UNIT 2
SIMPLE PAST & SENTENCE STRUCTURE
OBJECTIVES
The students are hoped to be able to write sentences using Simple Past Tense.
The students are wished to be able to write the correct sentence structure.
EXAMPLE
1. I checked Mr. White just before handover. (= this action is now finished)

If a sentence contains when and has the simple past in both clauses, the action in the
“when clause” happens first.
1st : the rain began.
2nd : I stood under a tree near the Royal Melbourne Hospital.
EXAMPLE:
1) I stood under a tree near the Royal Melbourne Hospital when it began to rain.

WRITE 3 SENTENCES USING SIMPLE PAST TENSE: “A series of actions
which happened often during a particular time in the past”!
1)……………
2)…………..
3)…………..
A state or situation which was true at a particular time in the past but is not true now.
For example:

time; perhaps it is not true now).
WRITE 3 SENTENCES USING SIMPLE PAST TENSE: “A state or situation
which was true at a particular time in the past but is not true now”.
1)……………
2)…………..
3)…………..
We often say when the action happened or when the state was true in the sentence, but
it is not necessary to do this. For example:
The raised toilet seat you brought last week is much better than the old one.
(= the toilet seat that the nurse gave the patient at that particular time)
How was your chemo today?
(= it is still today but the chemo happened at a particular time before now).

We can use ago with the time of the action to say how long before now. For example:

with the time of the action to say how long before now.”.
