This Research roots for one of the most serious problems in the society for a long time.I

witnessed it myself for a hundred of times.Poverty.In this part of research,I’m gonna

discuss the rate, effects, causes and changes we can do to stop poverty. But First,we

have to define, what is poverty? The author of this study wants to enlighten people on

what is the real meaning of poverty in the Philippines and what it looks like. Why is it

important to reduce poverty? Poverty is associated with a host of health risks, including

elevated rates of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, infant mortality, mental

illness, undernutrition, lead poisoning, asthma, and dental problems.

The Philippines has had more or less uneven success in reducing poverty over the past

two decades when compared to its neighboring countries. The number of people living

in poverty throughout the Philippine Islands has inclined in the past two decades. The

poverty line was placed at P8, 885 per person per year, equivalent at the prevailing

exchange rates to about $340 per person per year, or less than a dollar per person per

day.How does poverty is measured? How can we survive it? Unemployment tends to be

a reason for homelessness, but even minimum wages tend not to be enough to pay for

a small apartment .One can see homelessness in their own city. Homeless people have

to withstand very hot and very cold weather.

Is your mom’s right when she said poverty hits hard in the society?Well, yes. We can

define the poverty, one of the most serious problem in our country as one of the most

extreme rock on our society. Is it important to be employed? An unemployed person is

not able to buy enough & nutritious food for his family and their health decline. A weak

person lacks the energy required for the job. A jobless person remains poor only. Thus

we can say that poverty is the root cause of other problems.Education is one of the

ways for you to escape poverty.

Poverty is a social evil, we can also contribute to control it. For example- we can simply

donate old clothes to poor people, we can also sponsor the education of a poor child or

we can utilize our free time by teaching poor students. Remember before wasting food,

somebody is still sleeping hungry. How can we survive on poverty? Financial problem is

the hardest thing faced by the poor people. Without money, no future. But, there is

always a hope. Poverty is not a hindrance to ones' success. If you will work very hard,

nothing is impossible. Determination-that is the word. There are many people who

proved that there is nothing impossible even when you are poor.  There are many

people who were once poor, and now they are one of the elite people.

Poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom." This poverty definition

encompasses living conditions, an inability to meet basic needs because food, clean

drinking water, proper sanitation, education, health care and other social services are

inaccessible.Economic growth has gone through boom and bust cycles, and recent

episodes of moderate economic expansion have had limited impact on the poor. Great

inequality across income brackets, regions, and sectors, as well as unmanaged

population growth, are considered some of the key factors constraining poverty

reduction efforts. We can define poverty as the condition where the basic needs of a

family, like food, shelter, clothing, and education are not fulfilled. Poor people often

believe they are failures. And this message of oppression and hopelessness affects

their ability to hope for a better future. Their grandfathers lived in poverty. Their fathers

lived in poverty. The cycle continues with them and will continue to the next generation

as well.

According to (Perez J.B, June13,2017), Almost ten percent of the estimated 39

million Filipinos 6 to 24 years old were out-of-school children and youth (OSCY),

according to the results of the 2016 Annual Poverty Indicators Survey (APIS). In this

report, OSCY refers to family members 6 to 14 years old who are not attending formal

school; and family members 15 to 24 years old who are currently out of school, not

gainfully employed, and have not finished college or post-secondary course. When

people in poverty have a low view of themselves and no hope for the future, their
relationships are affected. They have a low regard for other people and don't believe

that their relationships will get better.

While the causes of poverty may seem as multi-faceted as a diamond, they can be

grouped into two primary categories—culture and believing the lie of worthlessness.

Cultures have internal and external elements that contribute to the existence of poverty.

Some of these conditions are tangible and external, like: Lack of shelter,Limited access

to clean water resources,Food insecurity,Physical disabilities,Lack of access to health

care,Unemployment, Absence of social services,Gender discrimination,Poor

infrastructure,Government corruption,Environmental circumstances such as natural

disasters, droughts, limited resources or depletion of natural resources.

With poverty plaguing the country and employment opportunities being scarce, many

Filipinos are unable to afford housing, which puts them in danger of turning to the

streets for accommodation. Hunger is one of the extreme effects of poverty in the

Philippines. With little money to buy food, Filipinos are having to survive on very limited

food; even when food supplies are stable, they are most accessible in other areas

where people have enough income to purchase the food. With poverty taking a toll on

Filipinos, parents often can’t make enough money to support their families; children then

have to be taken out of school to work in harsh conditions. Statistics show that around

3.6 million children, from ages 5-17, are child laborers in the Philippines. This is 15.9

percent of the entire population. With conditions so troublesome, people often resort to

crime and thievery to survive. Research found that one of the overwhelming reasons to

steal is due to difficulties caused by poverty. Without proper employment, people turn to
stealing, especially since family sizes are rather large, and there are a lot of people to

provide for.(Robinson,M.C. Feb,17,2018)

Based on the report (Gita-Carlos,R.A.Oct.17,2020),The World Bank had estimated the

Philippines' poverty incidence at 23.1 percent in 2017 and 21.9 percent in 2018. In its

latest report, the World Bank saw the poverty rate in the Philippines further declining to

19.8 percent in 2020 and 18.7 percent in 2021.According to (Bersales,L.G.April

10,2019) In addition to the thresholds and incidences, the PSA also releases other

poverty-related statistics in the report such as the income gap, poverty gap and severity

of poverty. The income gap measures the average income required by the poor in order

to get out of poverty, expressed relative to the poverty threshold. The poverty gap

refers to the income shortfall (expressed in proportion to the poverty threshold) of

families with income below the poverty threshold, divided by the total number of

families. The severity of poverty is the total of the squared income shortfall (expressed

in proportion to the poverty threshold) of families with income below the poverty

threshold, divided by the total number of families. This is a poverty measure that is

sensitive to income distribution among the poor.

We can Overcome poverty by applying Equality for all and Resilience against climate

change is especially important and deserves its own mention. According to the World

Bank, climate change could force an additional 100 million people into extreme poverty

over the next decade without any urgent action taken. According to UNESCO, if all

students in low-income countries had just basic reading skills an estimated 171 million

people could escape extreme poverty. If all adults completed secondary education, we

could cut the global poverty rate by more than half. Education develops skills and
abilities, corrects some of the imbalances that come out of marginalization, and

decreases both risk and vulnerability. Simply eating three meals a day and getting a

healthy amount of calories and nutrients can go a long way to addressing the cycle of

poverty. No war means that budgets allocated to cover the cost of conflict can be used

to deliver public services. It also reduces risks faced by the most vulnerable

communities, and ensures that goals towards equality and inclusion can be maintained
RRC

There can be no doubt that poverty is one of the main topics of serious problems even

in other countries. Therefore we have been able to learned that poverty is one of the

major issues in the world that need to be address quickly in the poorest villages in which

thousands of people are dying, and most of these people are children’s. We have

learned that poverty refers to the condition of not having the means to afford basic

human needs such as clean water, nutrition, healthcare, clothing, food, and a place to

live, poverty is a deadly issue that’s killing our population slow and that we as the

affected ones need to take actions against it. The reason there are so many people

living in poverty is because millions of other people are spending money in things they

don’t need,This leads us to the effects of this issue that are deadly illnesses that make

people fall and give up on their life, we learned that poverty lead people to abuse of

drugs or to abuse of other people.

As a student myself,I also lack of financial support because of the current state of the

country.I can notice that days are counted for money.Lack of education can lead you on

poverty.Lack of money can’t support you but kill you.I realized that poverty must not

ignore on our society. It might be the worse karma on human inappropriate activites. We

must learn from this research that we can’t defeat poverty if there is no humanity.Unity

and Harmony is needed.Hear us,government. We,people are your people.Stop the

corruptions and focus on the land you were destined to make.If we can’t defeat it,let’s

fight it.Poverty is nothing if we hold our hands together.
