Do you think the presence of these structures signify globality? Why or why not?
- I believe that the presence of these structures signifies globality. They are a product of
the country's efforts to be globalized. Structures like the Philippine Stock Exchange show that
the country is working on being globally and economically competitive. The media hubs gather
information on the latest news and trends for the Philippines to be not left behind. International
airports make it easier for the country to be accessed by cargo planes containing products
imported and exported. In conclusion, these structures help us to communicate and interact
globally.
M4 Post-task: Critical Thinking
1. I believe that Metro Manila can qualify as a global city, mainly because it is the center of the
country's finance and commerce. It has wealth, influence, and highly urbanized cities that make
the region a "global city." It has the cultural experience, active commerce, and political
engagement, which are dimensions of globalization.
2. Due to its large population, Metro Manila faces a lot of issues. One of the major problems is
the health of the public. For example, the current facilities of government hospitals are not
enough to cater to people infected by the coronavirus and its variants. Another problem is the
transport system. The traffic jams that have long been a big concern of the country itself affect
our economy vastly. Each minute that import and export products are delayed causes loss of
money.
3. Ever before, people from other provinces tend to think that Metro Manila is the gateway to a
better life. Although it is overpopulated, the job offers here gives more benefit and higher salary.
They also have easier access to healthcare, educational institutions, and other facilities that are
commonly hard to reach if you are living in a rural area.
4. If Metro Manila's population continuously increases, more issues will arise and worsen. If the
region's population exceeds its capacity greatly, it might no longer be able to support its citizens.
More people will suffer from poor services, and it might endanger their lives in return. It will
also hurt the country's economy and its efforts to be globalized.
5. Most global cities, especially those that are from first-world countries, are good at minimizing
the damage of their resources. For example, some of them advocate stopping using plastics. The
production of plastics uses more energy and materials, then leaves heavier damage to their
environment. They are also good at dividing the labor and are more efficient in handling things
concerning their citizens. For overpopulation, although it was amended, the one-child policy in
China might help. Some countries also offer free healthcare services.
