A balloon on the tail
Today is New Year’s Day. In the (1) morning, Kerry, a little mouse and her
mother are going to grandmother’s. She is very (2) happy because she is (3) wearing
nice clothes. “Good morning, Kerry”, a little rabbit sees them, “you look (4) pretty
today”. “Thank you”. “But, look at your beautiful (5) tail” says rabbit, “It is (6)
touching the ground”. “Oh my god” says Kerry and she (7) carries her long tail with
hands. Then there comes a dog with a big balloon. “Why do you carry your tail,
Kerry?” asks the dog. “Because it touches the ground, It will be (8) dirty”. “Oh don’t
(9) worry I can help you”. Then the dog ties a big (10) balloon on Kerry’s tail. “That’s
OK” says the dog “your tail won’t touch the ground again”.

Tape script: Billy and Bobby were small boys. They were brothers, and they often
fight with each other. Last Saturday their mother said to them, “I’m going to cook our
lunch now. Go out and play in the garden ... and be good”.
“Yes, Mummy”, the two boys answered and they went out. They played for half
an hour, and then Billy ran into the kitchen. “Mummy”, he said, “ Bobby’s broken a
window in Mrs Allen’s house”. Mrs Allen was one of their neighbors.
“He’s a bad boy”, his mother said, “How did he break it?”
“I threw a stone at him”, Billy answered, “and he quickly moved down”.

A Nice Young Man
An old (1) lady opens her window and looks out of it. The sun shines brightly.
There is a young man in the (2) garden in front of her house. The old lady looks at

grass for me young man?”

want to do something for you”.

very fat. He likes good food and eats a lot of it. We sat at a big table in the restaurant.
After a big meal we have some cakes and drank a few cups of coffee. “We must go
now, George” I said. “We have been here for more than three hours. It’s four thirty”.
“What do you mean?” asked George in surprise, “We can’t leave now. It’s
nearly time for supper”.

One afternoon, I went to a (1) shop to buy some ink. There was only one shop

Tape script: A lot of boys and girls in Western countries are wearing the same kind of
clothes, and many of them have long hair, so it is often difficult to tell whether they
are boys or girls.
One day an old man went for a walk in a park. When he was tired, he sat on a
chair near the river. A child was standing on the other side of the river. “Oh!” The old
man said to the person next to him on the chair. “Do you see that child with long hair?
Is it a boy or a girl?”
“A girl”, said the person, “she is my daughter”
“Oh, I am sorry. I didn’t know that you were her mother”.
“I am not her mother”, said the person, “I am her father”.

She said to Tom, “You must get up when you hear the clock rings”. After that, Tom
got up when he heard the clock rings at six thirty every morning
One day, the clock didn’t work. Tom didn’t get up at six thirty. It was time for
breakfast. Mother went to wake up him. Tom said to his mother, “I woke up very
early”. “Then why didn’t you get up?” Mother was angry. “You told me that I must
get up when I heard the clock ring. So I’m still waiting for the bell”.

Too Late
Peter works in a (1) food factory. He helps the shopkeeper. He puts food on the
(2) shelves every day. Then people come into the shop and buy the food. Today there
aren’t any bags of (3) rice on the shelf.
“Peter”, says the (4) shopkeeper, “we need some bags of rice, (5) bring some rice to
the shelf. Hurry up.”
Peter runs to get some bags of rice. They’re in (6) another room and they are on
the (7) top of the shelf. The shelf is high up. Peter is tall, but he can’t reach the bags.
He brings two boxes and puts one on the top of the other. Then he stands on them.
Now he reaches the bags on the shelf.
The shopkeeper is coming. He is calling Peter.
“Peter! Hurry up! What are you (8) doing? Where are the bags of rice?” he says. He
(9) opens the door. He can’t see Peter on the boxes.
“Don’t open the door!” Peter says.
Then Peter falls down!

Black’s car, and they drove about twelve miles. When they came to a small house, the
old woman said, “Stop here”. Mr Black stopped and looked at the house. “But this
isn’t a hotel”, he said to the old woman.
“No”, the old woman answered, “This is my house. And I’ll show you the way
to the hotel. After I get off, you turn around and go back nine miles. Then you’ll see
the hotel”.

Crying for Music

“What is it?” Miss Yates asked.
“What did you do at school today?” Polly said.
Miss Yates laughed. “What did you do at school today?” she said, “Why did
you ask me that, Polly”.
“Because I’m going to go home now”, Polly answered, “and my mother’s going
to ask me that”.

Mr. Smith liked to be exact. One day when he was walking in the (1) street, a

Tape script: The story is about a school boy called Olive. One day his mother told him

some words on it, “Put Litter in the Basket”. Olive took a look at the words, thought
them over and said, “They are poor in spelling. They can’t even spell the word ‘letter’
correctly”. Olive put the letter in the basket. Then he ran home and told his mother
about it. “Oh, my boy”, said the mother, “You’ve put the letter in a litter basket. You
must get it back”. With the words “I’m sorry”, Olive ran all the way to the litter
basket. Luckily he found the letter and put it into the letter- box at last. He said to
himself, “I must study hard from now on”.

was in the right one! “He’s sitting and laughing at me!” George said angrily to
himself. But then he smiled and got into his car with the dog.

Tape script: Tom was working in a town far from his home. One day he wanted to

found the house of the letter - writer.
The letter- writer was already in bed. “It’s very late”, he said, “What do you want?”
“I want to write a letter to my wife”, said Tom.
The letter-writer was not pleased. He thought for a few seconds and then said to Tom,
“My handwriting is strange, so I have to go to your home and read your letter to your
wife. It will cost you a lot of money”.
Tom went away quickly.
