It is one of the most popular patriotic song in the

Philippines. The song was composed by Filipino
musician, Francisco Santiago, the father of Kundiman,
and lyrics by Ildefonso Santos. In the Philippines,
“Pilipinas kong Mahal” is often sung by people at
political rallies, protest and demostrations. It is also
performed in plays especially in schools during the
celebration of Araw ng Kagitingan.
2. SA UGOY NG DUYAN

A Filipino lullaby composed by Lucio San Pedro while

the lyrics were written by Levi Celerio. Both of them
were National Artists of the Philippines and this song
was their popular collaboration. Due to its popularity
in the Philippines, it has been regarded by an
entertainment writer in Philippine Entertainment
Portal as familiar as the Philippine National Anthem.
It has been interpreted and recorded by various
Filipino artists.

3. KAY GANDA NG ATING MUSIKA

The song was written and composed by the National

Hajji Alejandor which became popular in 1978. “Kay
Ganda ng Ating Musika” was first performed in the

won the grand prize. Acclaimed as an opportune piece
of musical creation, the song exalts the emergence of
Filipino nationalism in
music.
2. PAGSAMBA
Pagsamba is a composition by Jose Maceda in 1968
that displays a ritualistic atmosphere on the tagalog
text of the Mass (Dictionary of Filipino Musical Terms,
2013). The piece requires more than 200 singers and
instrumentalists. It was premiered at the University of
the Philippines Parish of the Holy Sacrifice Chapel also
in 1968. In line with Jose Maceda centenary celebration
in 2017, Pagsamba is to re-staged in the same venue, with a mass dedicated to his
birth date and as an opening to the UP Diliman Arts Month
