INTRODUCTION
A symbol is something that represents something else by association, resemblance, or convention.
However, symbols are meaningful only if they are drawn according to relevant standards or convention. A
heart, for example, can be symbol for love, and a candle can be a symbol for light.
Symbols in TECHNICAL DRAWING also help to provide structure and routine such a diagrams and flow chart.
Animated film production used a flowchart to show the details of the relationships among hundreds of people
involved in film production. In some other cases, a flowchart is also used in the pre-production in animation to show the steps of the
whole process of storyboarding.

BASIC SYMBOLS

Technical drawing is also known as drafting. A drawing or a plan that is used to communicate directions and
specifics to a group of people. Making short animations serves as a tool and a medium for explaining an idea and
creating engaging explanations. By understanding the when, why, and how of making a short animation, different
symbols and diagrams are used. Symbols used in technical drawings are essential in animation because they help
convey an idea and to communicate each and every piece of information necessary in creating a design and in the
whole process of the production.

INTRODUCTION
Flowcharts are often used for documentation purposes because they are easier to follow. A
flowchart shows the steps involved to carry out a task. In animation, flowchart is often used in the
organization of the whole production. It is also used in storyboarding and scriptwriting. Flowchart is
a diagram that use graphic symbols to depict the nature and the flow of the steps in a process. A diagram
is a drawing that illustrates or visually explains a thing or idea by outlining its component parts in the relationship among
them.

BASIC FLOWCHART SYMBOLS

PROCEDURES IN INTERPRETING AND CREATING FLOWCHARTS

A flowchart will help an animator understand the process and uncover ways to improve it by
analyzing what is happening. Interpreting flowchart will help:

Sequence of steps by Antonette Quiles in analyzing flowchart:

1. Examine each process for the following conditions that indicate a need to improve the process:

a. Bottlenecks. These points in the process where it slows down may cost by redundant or unnecessary steps, rework,
lack of capacity or other factors.

b. Weak links. These are the steps were problems occur because of inadequate training of process workers, equipment
that needs to be repaired or replaced, or insufficient technical documentation. “Inform the drill leader and improvise” is
one of the week links.

c. Poorly defined steps. These are the steps that are not well-defined may be interpreted and performed in a different
way by each person involved, leading to process variation. “Improvise” is a poorly defined step in the weak link.

2. Examine each decision symbol. Collect data on how often there is a “yes” or “no” answer at decision points marked
by a diamond-shaped symbol. If most decisions go one way rather than the other, you may be able to remove this
decision point.

3. Examine each rework loop. Processes with numerous checks generate rework and waste. Examine the activities
preceding the rework loop and identify those that need to be improved. Look for ways to shorten or eliminate the loop.

4. Examine each activity symbol. Does the step help build a key quality characteristic into the end product? If not,
consider eliminating it.

practical and everyday tasks. To construct a flowchart, think about the order in which the operation need to occur then
draw the chart.

Each flowchart has one starting point and one or more ending points are drawn with a rounded rectangle or
oval. Steps, actions, or task are drawn with rectangle boxes. Sometimes a question needs to be answered to decide what
instruction should happen next. Decisions are drawn in diamonds with labels at the exits. The narrows the arrows show
the order the steps are taken.

computer freezes or locks up?
