THE PAST TENSE

CONJUGATION WITH AVOIR :


STRUCTURE : SUB.PRO. + AVOIR CONJ. + PAST PARTICIPLE
All the REGULAR verbs:
- with ‘ er ’ in the end are replaced with ‘é’ in the end.
- with ‘ ir ’ in the end are replaced with ‘ i ’ in the end.
- with ‘ re ’ in the end are replaced with ‘ u ’ in the end.
Present tense
étudier =J’étudie Past tense = J’ai étudié = I studied/have studied
Finir = je finis Past tense = J’ai fini = I finished/ I have finished
Nous avons fini = We finished/…
Attendre = il attend Past tense = Il a attendu = he waited/…

But some verbs are IRREGULAR, such as :

There is a list of IRREGULAR verbs that go with the verb être.
All REFLEXIVE VERBS also go with the same verb.

verbs that go with être .
