STOVES.

Installation, operation and maintenance instructions.

WE ADVISE TO READ THE WHOLE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE TO
INSTALL IT AND USE YOUR PELLET (BIOMASS) STOVE.
TO IGNORE THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD CAUSE DAMAGES IN
PROPERTIES AND EVEN PERSONAL INJURIES.

FAST STARTING UP MANUAL.

First thing to do is to connect your stove to the current network.
Over the control panel (screen/display) we will observe an ignition sequence in which the model of
stove, the software version and its last checking-up
checking date will be indicated.
Fill hopper with pellets (biomass) and close its door.
Once all these operations have been carried out, check there is nothing inside the fireplace that
could prevent the combustion, there should only be the burning pot.
The glass door must be firmly closed to ensure a perfect operation.
Once these operations attained we will switch our stove on. In this first ignition, we must open the
room windows as the stove can release a light painting odour.
To switch the stove on we must press the power button ( ) once this button pressed the appliance will
light automatically.
The ignition process goes through several phases, ignition, preheating and normal working. With
the ignition, we obtain the initial flame. The preheating is a fully automatic process in which the stove
will look for the minimum temperature level. The normal operation is the step in which the stove finds
the temperature we have set.
To increase or decrease
ecrease the heat level we must press buttons “3” for increasing or “4” decreasing
fuel (◄ ►).
To switch the stove off we must press button “2” switching off ( ) never unplug the stove.
The programming must be done with button “1” for Menu (see programming progra section on
instruction manual).
In any case and after this brief explanation we recommend reading the operation and installation
instructions thoroughly in order to avoid possible installation or handling failures.

1. CONSIDER THAT…

Your stove is designed to burn biomass (pellets).

To prevent the possibility of an accident, ensure that the appliance is properly installed by adhering to the
installation instructions listed in this manual. Your Ecoforest dealer will be happy to assist you in obtaining
information with regards to codes, assembling rules and local installation standards.
The appliance exhaust system works by negative pressure in the combustion chamber, therefore it is
essential ensure that the exhaust system is sealed and airtight, being recommended a periodic check to ensure a
proper gas exhausting.
It is advisable to clean the exhaust vent biannually o every 700 Kg. of fuel. To prevent the possibility of any
bad function, is essential to install a vertical exhaust, using a tee and at least 1,5 m. of vertical pipe, never
horizontal. (See point 4).
The grounded electrical cord should be connected to a standard 230V-50 Hz grounded electrical outlet. Be
careful that the electrical cord is not trapped under the appliance and that is clear of any hot surfaces or sharp edges
that could cause any damage.
When installing in a mobile home, it must be electrically grounded to the steel chassis of the home and
bolted to the floor. Make sure that the structural integrity of the home is maintained.
When the exhaust pipe goes through walls and ceilings, ensure that it does not touch any combustible
material in order to avoid the possibility of a fire.
Since Ecoforest has no control over the installation of your stove, we grant no guarantee or assume no
responsibility for any consequential damage caused for a bad installation or if handled improperly.
WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT YOUR INSTALLATION CALORIFIC CALCULATION IS
DONE BY A QUALIFIED INSTALLER.

2. WARNINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS.

2.1. Is recommended that the unit be secured into its position in order to avoid any displacement.
2.2. Never use gasoline, gasoline type lantern fuel, kerosene or similar liquids to start the stove. Keep all such
liquids well away from the pellet stove.
2.3. Do not attempt to operate the stove with broken glass.
2.4. Ensure that the combustion chamber glass door is firmly closed during the appliance operation; check the
ash pot box and the cleaning hatches also.
2.5. Do not overfire the stove, a continuous heat stress could cause a premature ageing and make the painting to
spoil, (is recommended that the exhaust temperature does not exceed 250 ºC).

3. FUEL QUALITY.

Your pellet appliance works with biomass (pellets). Since there are many classes of biomass with very
different qualities, is important to select those that are free of any impurities.
The performance of your pellet stove is greatly affected by the type and quality of wood pellets being
burned.
Since Ecoforest do not have any type of control over the biomasa (pellet) quality used, cannot guarantee the
full performance of your stove nor of the installation. We recommend to use our pellet approved under the DIN
51731 standard and recognisable for our Ecoforest badge, printed on 15 Kg. bags.

4. INSTALLATION.

As the VIGO AND VENUS stoves are installed in the same way, we will only show the VIGO model.

UNPACKING THE STOVE FROM ITS PALLET.

4.1. Remove the parking and the carton box.

4.2. Clear the stove out of the pallet.

REQUIRED MATERIALS FOR ITS INSTALLATION.

3
4.3. Always stainless steel piping, never use aluminium pipes.
4.4. In case of assembling the stove in a french chimney, use flexible stainless steel pipe.
4.5. Aluminium tape and high temperature resistant silicone (300ºC).

SECURITY RULES FOR THE EXHAUST.

4.6. The gas exhaust must be placed in a wind blowing zone , never in closed or semi-closed zones, as garages,
corridors, inside the building air-tyre, or any location that can build up a concentration of fumes.
4.7. Stove surfaces can become hot enough to cause burns if touched by children or elderly people, we
recommend the use of non-combustible shielding.
The exhaust pipe termination should be higher than the stove outlet. Is essential that at least 1,5 m of
vertical pipe be installed when the appliance is vented directly through a wall to create a natural draft to
prevent the possibility of smoke or door during appliance shut down or power failure.
4.8. Clearances from doors, windows, vent grids or air inlet into buildings:

A Clearance from the vent grid. 65 cm

B Clearance from the vent grid. 65 cm
C Side part of a door. 1,25 m
D Top part of a window. 65 cm
E Top part of a door. 65 cm
F Side part of a door. 1,25 m
G Neighboring wall. 30 cm
H Height from the neighboring wall. 2,30 m
I Neighboring building. 65 cm

4.9. Minimum distance from the exhaust to floor should not be less than 65 cm, depending always of the surface
type. The exhaust gases are hot enough to ignite grass, plants and shrubs located close the exhaust
termination.
4.10. Distance between exhaust termination and public walkways should be of at least 2 m.
4.11. Distance to combustible materials is 65-cm. minimum.
4.12. Never insert the exhaust pipe of the stove in a chimney or an existing installed pipe of four times the stove
pipe section. (± Ø 200mm).
4.13. Do not install the exhaust pipe in any type of shared piping, as the one of an extractor hood.
4.14. Whether the exhaust termination is not properly installed or combustion air mixture is poor, could occur
that either the fumes soil the home wall or the building front, and to get a quantity in excess of ashes up
inside the stove y cause an early damage of the different metallic parts.

SINCE THE COMPLIANCE OF THESE STANDARDS ARE BEYOND OUR CONTROL, WE

ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL INCIDENT

IS RECOMMENDED THAT AN AUTHORIZED INSTALLER INSTALL YOUR PELLET APPLIANCE

LOCATION OF VIGO AND VENUS STOVES.

4.15. Check clearances between stove and fuels or any type of flammable material.
4.16. Do not install the stove in a bedroom.
4.17. The power cord supplied by Ecoforest is 1,8 long, an extension cord could be required to reach the
electrical outlet. Use always a grounded cord.

FREE CLEARANCES

Safety clearances should be respected when the stove is installed where the surrounding materials are
combustible.
Exhaust pipe could be installed through a wall using a 45º-90º elbow or a stainless steel flex pipe, placing a
tee with cleanout and 1.5 in vertical, see figure 1:

EXHAUST THROUGH A WALL.

4.16. Choose a location for your stove that meets the requirements stated in this manual (section “Location of the
appliance”). Installation will result very simple and might not affect to house structure, plumbing or wiring.
4.17. Install any protection on the floor if necessary, in most of cases is enough with the mounting base supplied
with the appliance.
4.18. Consider the safety clearances to the wall.
4.19. Locate the centre of the exhaust pipe on the stove. Extend that line to the wall, use a hole saw with a widian
crown to cut a 9 cm hole; ensure to leave 100 mm clearance between possible combustible materials that
could exist inside the wall.
4.20. Introduce the vent pipe through the hole on the wall, connect it to the exhaust pipe on the stove and fix it
with a metal flange. The pipe joints should be sealed with high temperature resistant silicone and
aluminium tape.
4.21. Push the stove straight back until to be in its definitive location.
4.22. Place an stainless steel tee on the outside part of the building, with this tee we will achieve at the same
time, both to carry the piping vertically and to have a cleanout for future maintenance works. In the event
of having an inside chimney, the tee should be placed inside the home, at the rear part of the stove.
4.23. Secure the pipe to the wall with metal support brackets.
4.24. Install a stainless steel rain cap at the pipe termination, is the one we recommend for the piping more
lasting.

EXHAUST THROUGH A WOODEN WALL

4.25. Go to step 4.17 in the previous section “exhaust through a wall”.

4.26. When drilling a hole in a wooden wall it is necessary to consider that we must install an insulating sleeve,
thus, the hole in the wall must be of 20 cm. outer and 10 cm. inner, (depending on the manufacturer).
4.27. Once the wall drilled, install the pipe into the wall thimble. If the pipe looses inside the thimble we can pack
it with firerock and then install a trim at both sides.

KEYBOARD CONNECTION, INPUT, AND ROOM THERMOSTATE.

The first thing to do is to locate the keyboard, that goes inside the fireplace together with the remote
control.
Alter fitting the screws of the keyboard support (q) ( w only in the standing stove), we must plug the flat
cable for the keyboard connection (u), that goes inside the stove on the right, looking it from the front, and pass it
through the back grid and connect it to the keyboard (y), it only has one joining position.
Finally, connect the room thermostat (t) and the feeding cable in the input (e).
The room thermostat goes in the rear part of the stove, as showed in figure 7a, we will know that it is
recognized by the stove since the room temperature is displayed on the control panel. If we connect a different
thermostat as the one supplied by Ecoforest instead of the room temperature, this sign ( · ) appears, showing that
there exists something connected to the communication port.
At present, we have an external connection adaptor available, with different connections, for Ecoforest
room thermostat, for other manufacturers thermostat and for any external contact to switch on/off the stove.
The external contact to switch on /off the stove needs its activation through the “Menu 3”- Technical
Service, point 3-4, “external activation”.

11. CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE.

For a good stove operation is essential to attain the following cleaning and maintenance operations with the
indicated regularity. Always when the stove is cold.

IN COLD DAILY CLEANING

15
11.1. Heat exchangers.
Pull off from the rake pullers, this work is advisable to do with the glass door firmly closed to achieve that
the ash falls within the stove. Repeat this operation every day when the stove is completely cold.

Figure 12
11.2. Ash in the burning pot.
When we open the front glass door we accede to the burning pot, where the combustion takes
place; vacuum it off and take it out, (pay attention when placing it again), in order to clean all the
holes, checking that all of them remains completely clean and vacuum out the burning pot holder
where it is placed.

Figure 13

11.3. Fireplace front door

Simply clean the glass with a piece of paper or apply a window cleaner liquid, always when the stove is
cold.
The closing handle, although it is well adjusted with an auto-locking nut, must be periodically checked,
adjusting it when necessary in order to prevent possible loos of air tightness in the fire chamber.
11.4. Ash pot box (only for model VIGO).
In this model (Vigo) the ash pot box is placed on the base, behind the side-lower decorative trims. By
opening the side decorative trims, as showed on the figure below, we can accede to the ash pot box.

q Lower decorative trim.

w Ash pot closing lid.
e Ash pot box.
r Washout hole.

Figure 14

IMPORTANT: If the stove works with ash or remainders saturation, this can deform both the burning pot
and burning holder, and even the ash pot box, causing therefore a defective operation.

16
END OF SEASON CLEANING

It is essential to ensure the continuity of the good operation and to make the life of the appliance longer. As
soon as the cold season ends, contact your dealer (if he has still not done it to you), to arrange an appointment to
make this maintenance, the following works will be due to carry out (always unplug the stove).

11.5. Opening of the doors or side panels.

Either the Vigo model and the Vigo Diamond or Venus, have different ways to open their doors or side
panels.
In Vigo model, we have to remove two screws, the first one is placed on the top part, and we can reach it on
the side door through its grid. The second screw can be reached by opening the front decorative trim of the stove;
by opening this trim we can find one screw on each side.
In Vigo Diamante model, we can disassemble in an independent way any of the four panels, by removing
the screws that are placed on the stove rear part.
In Venus model it is enough with pulling up the lid we must remove, with the help of the holes that are
placed in each panel.

11.6. Fireplace cleaning.

to the daily cleaning, lubricate the following elements with a spray Besides of the daily cleaning carried out
thoroughly, we should lubricate the following elements with an spray:

 Burning pot.
 Burning pot holder.
 Heat exchanger pipes..
 Movable parts screws.

11.7. Cleaning of the exhaust circuit of stove. Always unplug the stove (Very important).
After checking that the stove is unplugged, disassemble the side doors, that give access to the cleaning
hatches, remove side-cleanout holes and introduce the cleaning brush by them moving it repeatedly in all
senses to be able to make all the ash adhered to the chamber walls to come off. Act in the same way with
the t cleanout hole in the front.
For an optimal cleaning of the exhaust collector is recommended to disassemble the own exhaust, this will
give a full access to the area for a better cleaning. Once the exhaust is out, clean it with a dry brush, paying
special attention to the turbine and the case.

q Exhaust fan.
w Sense of the exhaust exit.

Figure 15

11.8. Disassemble and clean the exhaust piping.

Once the exhaust piping is reassembled, ensure that it remains well sealed, preferably with silicone.

11.9. Ash pot box (only Vigo models) and cleanouts.

In this model Vigo stove, we can reach to the ash pot box and cleanout holes as shows the figure below,
which have to be fully clean, as on its cleaning will depend its correct operation.
Regarding to the cleanouts, we must be aware that, as showed below, we have one in each side of the stove.
In Venus model, the cleanout holes are placed in the same position as in the previous model, Vigo, with the
only difference that it does not have either ash pot box and side doors, to proceed to its cleaning we must

17
pull up from the side panels until disassembled them, by this way we can reach the side cleanout holes, as
in the Vigo model (see point r)

e Ashpot box.
r Cleanout.

Figure 16

It is advisable to calculate the regularity of the cleanout holes clearing, according to the operation hours,
avoiding it to remain full of ashes.
Once we have the stove walls fully clean, we must ensure that the clearing traps are completely closed, as
on them depends the good working of the stove.

11.10. Lubrication of the auger screw axle, on its top and lower part. Do it with a spray in small quantities.

q Auger motor.
w Brass case and lubrication point.

Figure 17

11.11. Cleaning of pellet dropping duct.

Use the brush provided by ECOFOREST to drag all the dirt that could be adhered on the duct.

q Cleaning brush
w Fuel dropping pipe.

Figure 18

11.12. Lubrication of screws and glass door handle.

11.13. Checking up of the glass door joints
Check it up thoroughly for any imperfection that could produce air escaping. Change it in case of needed.

IMPORTANT: After a cleaning or a final perfection, it is essential to check the correct operation of the
stove. After it, and once the stove is turned off and during the season that is not used, leave the stove unplugged
until the new season.

BEGGINING OF SEASON CHECKING UP

It is reduced to control that either at the combustion air intake and the exhaust there is no object (as
nests) that could prevent a normal circulation.
18
Furthermore, it is advisable to clean the rear part of the stove, to which we accede through the back grid or
the side doors, in order to remove possible dust gathered during the summer season.

12. TROUBLESHOOTING AND RECOMMENDATIONS.

WHAT WE MUST NOT DO.

12.1. Do not switch the stove on and off rapidly. This may cause internal damage in the electronic components
and the 230 V motor.

12.2. Do not touch the stove with wet hands. The stove is an electrical appliance, though is equipped with earth
wire, may pose a shock hazard if handled improperly. Only qualified technicians should deal with possible
electrical failures.
12.3. Do not remove any screws in the firebox without first lubricate them with penetrating oil.

WHAT TO DO IF...

CURRENT DO NOT SUPPLY THE STOVE:

12.4. Make sure the stove is plugged in and the wall outlet is supplying power.
12.5. Verify that the cord is not cut or damaged.
Unplug the stove and disassemble the right side door, check that there is not any loosen strip on the CPU.

THE STOVE DOES NOT START:

There is not pellet dropping:

12.6. Check that the hopper is filled with pellets.
12.7. Check that the glass door is firmly closed.
12.8. Observe that the exhaust pipe is not clogged by some strange object as nest, plastic, etc.
12.9. Check the safety thermostat to see that it is placed inside the stove, by opening the right side door; to
activate it, press the button if necessary. Unplug the stove to carry out with this operation.

There is pellet dropping:

12.10. Check that the glass door is firmly closed..
12.11. Check that the glass door is firmly closed. .Check that the burning pot is fitted; it should be touching the
ignitor/ resistance tube. The burning pot hole must match with that same tube.

Figure 20
19
12.12. Pay special attention to the stove cleaning since an excessive dirt could make the stove not to ignite.
12.13. Observe that the ignition resistance works.

THE IGNITION RESISTANCE (IGNITOR) DOES NOT WORK

12.14. Check that the ignitor warms up, removing the burn pot liner and observing that it glows (do not touch it).

THE EXHAUST BLOWER DOES NOT WORK, OR DOES NOT WORK NORMALLY

12.15. Unplug the stove and try to loose a possible tight motor by rotating it with your hands, ensure before, that
the stove is unplugged.
12.16. Check that the motor is being supplied with current by switching the stove on.
12.17. Verify also the exhaust and condenser terminal strip, located at the rear part of the stove in case there is
some loose cable.

THE BLOWER DOES NOT TURN

12.18. Ensure that the turbine is not tight. Unplug the stove, open the right side door and rotate it with the hand to
ensure that it turns with total freedom.

THE AUGER MOTOR DOES NOT WORK.

12.19. If the auger motor does not turn and the display indicates the pulses, the first thing to do is unplug the stove
and check that the safety thermostat is not enabled. If it were opened before, it is enough with closing it by
pressing in cold its button with a ball-point pen or a hard object.
12.20. Check that the glass door is firmly closed.
12.21. If it turns slower than usual, it may have something blocking it, as a screw, a piece of wood, etc. To solve it,
it would be necessary to drain the hopper, and even remove the auger screw.
12.22. If the auger motor makes a noise while is turning, it could be due to the lack of lubrication. Lubricate the
screw, never the own auger motor.
12.23. Ensure that the exhaust motor works as, if it does not work, there is not fuel dropping.

THE STOVE TURNS OFF

12.24. Check that the stove is supplied with current.

12.25. Check that the hopper is not empty.
12.26. A forgotten program on the clock setting can make the stove to turn off. Go to Menu 1-4 and check.
12.27. Bad quality of pellets, humidity, sawdust excess, could cause an unwanted turning off.
12.28. If the stove turns off and you find half-burned pellets at the burning pot; it could be caused by a bad
cleaning. Review the cleaning and maintenance section.
12.29. Dirt inside the stove or too much time without cleaning it.
12.30. If the stove is off and it does not have pellets in the burning pot, check the auger motor, the blower and the
exhaust fan.
