WY INDUSTRIES,FOREWORD
‘This manual has instructions and procedures for the subject on the front cover. The information,
specifications, and illustrations in this publication are on the basis of information that was current
at the time this issue was written.
Correct operation, maintenance, test and repair procedures will give this product a long service
life. Before starting a test, repair or rebuild job, the serviceman must read the respective sections
of this manual, and know all the components he will work on.
Safety precautions, skill and knowledge are listed in the descriptions of operations where hazards
exist. Warning labels have also put on the machine to provide instructions and identity specific
hazards which, if not heeded, could cause bodily injury or death to you or other persons. These
labels identity hazards which may not be apparent to a trained mechanic. There are many roten-
tial hazards during repair for an untrained mechanic and there is no way to label the machine
against all such hazards. These wamings in this manual and on the machine are identifiad by
these symbols:

‘The blade sip clutch isan alternative protective means
taking the place of the shear pin mechanism in the
Mitsubishi motor graders.
This clutch slips when an abnormally great external
force acts on the blade to protect the components of
implement against destructive overloading.
The use of this ctch is of great advantage to that of
the conventional shear pin because:
(1) tis free from a replacement part such as a shear
pin (it cuts downtime and expense needed for
the part replacement).
(2) Itmakes itpossible to adjust blade rotating torque
for a given job.
(3) Thanks to the advantages cited in (1) and (2)
‘above, it contributes much to high working effi-
ciency.BLADE SLIP CLUTCH
‘The existing shear pin mechanism can be converted
to this clutch mechanism by replacing the shear pin
flange and pin rollers.
“The major components ofthis clutch are mating plates
5 splined on pin roller 1, friction plates 6 splined on
the circle reverse gear shaft and disc spring 7. When
in engaged position (in the normal state), the spring
holds the plate stack between the 6-mm (0.24-in)
mating plates, and the entire assembly rotates as a
Unit, When a reacting force is transmitted to this clutch,
from the circle side (blade), the clutch slips to inter-
rupt the force.

Disassembly of Shear Pin Mechanism and Reassembly of Slip Clutch
Mechanism
Disassembly
1. Set the blade at a position angle of 90°, lower it
to the ground, and remove rear guide shoes 1 (2
Pes).
2. Penetrate the blade nto the ground (to apply load
to the blade) slightly, Under this condition, move
the machine backward to disengage pin roller 2 3 = 2
about 40 mm (1.6 in.) from the internal teeth of ¢
ca ;

2. Install the pin roller so that S marks stamped on
Its side face are positioned in the longitudinal di-
rection of the machine.
3. Be sure to install the blade slip clutch parts from
lower side with the blade rested on the ground.
WARNING
Do not inst
the clutch parts with the blade held
in bank-cut position, or the blade will rotate, re-
sulting in serious injury.

5.
Move the machine forward to engage the pin roller
with the internal teeth of circle.
Install the rear guide shoes (2 pcs).
Install the following parts:
11. Mating plate
Ithickness: 6.8 mm (0.25 in.), 1 pe]
12. Friction plate (5 pes)
13. Mating plate

15 Plates (2 pes)
Keep the mating plates and friction plates free
from any ol.
Plates 18 are used to prevent the mating plates
and friction plates from cocking or ting to one
side. Fit these plates in their grooves in the pin
roller so that they will not protrude more than are
necessary.
Install cover 18 without inserting shims 16 and
disc spring 17, and temporarily tighten the cover
bolts.
* The shims and dise spring are to be installed
finally or after the thickness of the shims is
determined.

8 Measure the clearance A between cover 18 and
pin roller 6, determine the thickness of the shims
to be inserted, and install the shims and disc
spring.

(Caution)
Do not set the clutch slip torque higher than is
recommended, or the components of implement
will suffer damage.
f doing so is inevitably needed, consult our au-
thorized dealer.

Varying Clutch Slip Torque Setting (Shim Adjustment)
1. Be sure to position the $ marks on the pin roller
in the longitudinal direction of the machine when
varying the clutch slip torque setting, or the circle
will get in the way of removing or inserting the
shims.
2. Do not remove the cover bolts (2 pes) close to
the S marks but loosen them. Remove the other
bolts.
3. With the cover on the pin roller, increase or de-
crease the shims.

Do not subtract more than 0.2 mm (0.008 in.) shim
{rom the specified number of shims for increasing the
clutch slip torque.

the number of shims removed (thickness of shim re-
duced) shall be not more than the following value.
