Analysis on the critical points of the CNU Vision, Mission, Values, and Quality Policy and the highlights
of CNU’s legacies through the years
Universities have been around for a long time as educational institutions that conduct
scientific research, provide solutions for problems countries face, train qualified work force in required
fields, and play a leading role in the development of democratic principles and free thinking. In this
sense, universities are considered to be institutions that lead efforts for social transformation. As they
transform the society, universities themselves are at the center of change, for they need to be the
initiators of change. Universities’ mission and vision statements serve as public pronouncements of
their purpose, ambition, and values.
The CNU envision itself as a multidisciplinary research university of education committed to

build a strong nation. With the goal of sustaining excellence and cultivating significance in advanced
and higher education research and extension. Cebu Normal University forges on with its vision of
becoming a leading multidisciplinary research university of education committed to build a strong
nation. Achieving this vision requires every member of the Cebu Normal University to engage in
instruction delivery, as two of its trifold function, as a government higher education institution, and as
an obligation of all SUCs or State University and Colleges, in which CNU is one in alleviating poverty
and helping the nation.
The CNU mission is to develop high-performing professionals and intellectuals proficient in

generating new knowledge toward a progressive and peaceful pluralistic society. The CNU mission
comprise three mutually reinforcing thrusts which are: Transformative education that nurtures
thinking individuals who are valued members and leaders of society; High impact researches that push
the boundaries of knowledge in education and contribute to improving communities and; Strong
partnerships that collectively and creatively addresses the development gaps of the communities.
Acknowledging its vital role in nation-building through contributing to the development of

human capital in the country, CNU functions to provide broad and general and highly specialized
education that assists each learner to attain his or her full potential as a human being, enhance the
range and quality of his or her participation in the basic functions of society and acquire the essential
educational foundation for his or her development into productive and versatile citizens. CNU’s
academic programs, research institutes and comprehensive extension activities provide leadership
necessary for the advancement of knowledge in the country and improvement of the lives of the
quality of life of the Filipino.
In order to achieve its mission and vision, CNU develops its goals and objectives which serves
as matrix to measure how far or how close is CNU in achieving its vision and mission. The CNU goal is
in line with the University’s thrust to sustain its tradition of excellence and cultivate significance and in
answer to its mandate to contribute to nation building, the delivery of quality higher and advanced
higher education, significant contribution to knowledge generation in the nation and relevant
extension services to the community are facilitated by excellent resource management and a healthy
fiscal condition.
In order to reach the goal, CNU develops its strategic directions which guides how it will
navigate the challenges in achieving excellence and significance in instruction research and extension.
Programs and activities will be pursued to enhance Research, Development and Innovation; to sustain
quality and relevance; to expand Community Engagement and Linkages. The University seeks to
implement content management systems, and streamline the university website to achieve the
Digitization and Automation of Operations. Lastly, the University seeks to create training centers for
short-term courses, and implement other income-generating projects to support Resource Generation
and Utilization.
As CNU’s promise to client field, which are stakeholders, the students, the faculty, the parents,
staffs and other interested parties. The CNU develops quality policy to represent its promise to quality
and excellence.
The CNU Quality Policy reads Cebu Normal University commits itself to deliver excellence in
education, research and extension services towards global competitiveness, to meet the increasing
levels of customer demand, statutory, regulatory, and international standards through continuous
quality improvement and good governance. On excellence on education, CNU strives to maintain the
quality of graduates not just education program but also in all the other programs offered by the
different colleges of the university. With its institutional values “Graduates of the Cebu Normal
University are Design Thinkers, Facilitators of Learning, Mission-Division Workers & Protectors of
Nature”, graduates of the university are expected to exhibit the Tatak CNU or its graduate attributes of
being a designed thinker, facilitator of learning mission-driven worker and protector of nature. CNU’s
research and extension services towards global competitiveness are aligned to its strategic directions
on high impact researches and responsive extension undertaking require to engage in this endeavor.
The CNU outputs are aimed not just for local contribution but also for global significance. To ensure
compliance to the commitment relevant, and responsive virtual and/or physical monitoring, review,
and upgrading of service delivery are implemented.
Therefore, in our journey to reaching and achieving our mission, its member of the CNU
community, whether a student, a faculty or staff, we strive for excellence in what we do and maintain
the quality on what we do.
