Business will always be here because people need goods and
services in order to survive. There are always business
opportunities for people who are resourceful, creative, and
risk-takers.

Here are some factors to consider in searching for business

opportunities:

1.Location of the business- Is the location of the business

near a populated area?
2. Capital- Is there enough money to keep the business
going? The amount of money you need depends upon what
you want to sell.
3. Needs of the community- What are the needs of the
community? What products are in demand?
4. Available resources- How much is your capital? Do you have
the right equipment and facilities to do the job?
5. Target Market- Where will you sell your products and who
will buy them?
6. Manpower- Are there expert workers around?
7. Skills and Interest- Do you have the skills to handle the
business?

The process of directly selling goods in small amounts or

quantities to consumers (costumers) is called retail
merchandising.
Importance of Buy and Sell
Kinds of Retail Stores According to the Goods
Handled
1. Convenience Store- Most Filipinos are engaged in the sari-sari store business as a
means of livelihood.

A sari-sari store or tindahan is a small store that commonly

located within a house, and usually occupies a small area of
the house’s façade or garage.

A sari-sari store is part of a process called retail. Retail is the

process of selling goods to distributors or retailers, who then
sell their products to end users or customers. The operator of
a sari-sari store is called a retailer. The goods that are sold
are called merchandise.
2. Deparment Store- This store sells different kinds of goods
distributed in the different sections of the store. The children’s
section is where you can buy clothes and shoes for children;
the ladies’s section is where you can buy all sorts of things for
women, etc. This store is very convenient because you can do
your shopping in one place.
3. Grocery Store- A grocery store is a store that retails food items.

A grocer, the owner of a grocery store, stocks

different kinds of foods and sells these
“groceries” to customers. Large grocery stores
that stock products other than food, such
clothing or household items are called
supermarkets.
4. Drug Store- This store mainly sells medicine and
other health products. It needs a licensed pharmacist
and an approval from the Food and Drug Administration
(FDA) to operate.
5. Bookstore- The main products of this store are books
and other reading materials. This type of store is mostly
found in cities.
6. Fruit Stand- This is a stall where different fruits for sale are
displayed. They are common in the markets.
7. Hardware Store- This store sells materials that are
used in building construction, such as nails, paints,
cement, and many more.
