RECAP
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure,” this is what Benjamin
Franklin said on prevention is better than a cure, could easily be applied to the issue
of the COVID- 19 pandemics. A little precaution before a crisis occurs is preferable
to fixing up afterward. Health always comes first. A regular check-up with your
doctor helps them determine your general health to identify your risk factors for
diseases.

Choosing a healthy lifestyle is an excellent way to prevent different kinds of

diseases. Exercise and good nutrition are a few ways to achieve a healthy lifestyle
which will make you less susceptible to illnesses and will make you feel well.

Figure 1. https://tinyurl.com/PasigDoctorsMedicalCenter
Pasig Doctors Medical Center is a privately run hospital that works hand-in-
hand with the Pasig City Government to provide services that are equitable and
accessible to all. Though state of the art, it would be best to visit this hospital merely
for regular check-ups and not make it a customary habit.

Now that you are aware of the type of healthcare in our city, let us now move
on to the next activity.

LESSON

Some lifestyle choices can significantly affect a person’s risk of developing respiratory
and circulatory diseases. Unhealthy eating habits, vices, and stressful environments
can cause various diseases, these factors are also major causes of respiratory and
circulatory systems.
A person’s lifestyle choices play a bigger role than ones’ genes when it comes
to their health. Now is the best time to adopt new habits to improve your well-being.
Here is a list of 5 healthy lifestyles that could significantly impact on your health,
along with a few tips for making them successful:

1. Keep Moving
Being physically active is just as important as how much you exercise. Simple
by doing stretches in between chores or work can help the blood flow, so don’t just
sit down for hours while working or be a couch potato.
Moving can help improve your circulation as well as lessen your stress levels
and sense of well-being.

2. Eat healthy food

Avoiding processed convenience foods and fast food (e.g. Burgers, French Fries
and Chips), I know these food are delicious but stay away from the temptation
instead eat a balanced diet of fresh fruits and vegetables add some healthy
polyunsaturated fat, whole grains, and plant-based proteins to nourish yourself,
your body will thank you and you will have a better overall quality of life.

3. Relieved Stress
Stress can have a negative impact on your health. It causes an increase in
cortisol levels, if not manage that can affect your overall well-being and health.

4. Make Sleep a Priority

Insomnia knows no gender, it hits 40% and women and 30% of men. Your
body needs at least 7-9 hours of sleep per night, if not it can affect your physical and
mental health.
Remember that your body needs to rest and a good night sleep helps your
body to recover faster.

5. Lessen Your Alcohol Intake

Drinking alcohol in moderation is considered safe for some people, there are
still health risks alcohol-related that aren’t apparent until later in life.

Changes for a Healthy Life

Remember that it all starts in your first step. It takes time to get rid of bad
habits and develop a good one. It requires a long-term commitment and a lot of
patients in reaching your goal for a healthier and quality of life.
Now let’s talk about some of the implications of negative lifestyle choices to
our health. Negative lifestyle choices fall into two categories: it can be active –
something people do – or passive – something people choose not or neglect to do.

They include:
● Less physical activity or not enough activity
● Sitting or lying down for a long time.
● Having an unhealthy meal, too much or too little is bad for your health
● Not having enough sleep or having irregular sleeping habit
● Smoking cigarette or tobacco product
● Excessive alcohol drinking
● Taking uncontrolled substance or drugs
● Self-inflicting harm

The effects

Negative lifestyle choices affect both physical and mental aspects of a person,
these effects can be short-term or worst long-term. It may also affect everyone around
us, colleagues, family members and friends. In general people tend to overlook the
negative effects, especially if it may not appear until far in the future they would
rather change their current behavior to gain positive benefits than to avoid the
negative effects entirely.
