Lesson Title: The Internet and Education

Intended Learning Objectives:

a. Integrate the facets of the Internet and Education for better learning.
b. Apply basic MS Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Flash, Animation and Internet.

A. LESSON INTRODUCTION
The internet is the most useful technology of modern times, which helps us not only in our
daily lives but also in professional lives. For educational purposes, it is widely used to gather
information and to do research or add to the knowledge of various subjects.
The Internet can also improve the quality of education in many ways. It opens doorways to a
wealth of knowledge and educational resources, increasing opportunities for learning both in and
out of the classroom.

B. MAIN LESSON

THE INTERNET AND EDUCATION

Internet

 Is also called the Net is a largest and far- flung network system of-all-system. Internet not
really a network but loosely organized collection of about 25,000 networks accessed by
computers on the planet.
 It has no central headquarters, no centrally offered services, and no comprehensive online to
tell users what information is available in the system.
HOW IS EVERYTHING COORDINATED THROUGH THE INTERNET?

 Done through a standardized protocol (or set of rules for exchanging data) called Transmission
Control Protocol / Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
 To gain access to the internet, the computer must be equipped with what is called a Server
which has a special software (program) that uses the internet protocol.

1. Cost Effective and Affordable Education

 The Internet improves the quality of education, which is one of the pillars of sustainable
development of a nation. It provides education through Videos (like YouTube tutorial
videos) and web tutorials which is affordable to everyone and cost-effective.
2. Student – Teacher and Peer Interaction
 The internet has allowed students to be in constant touch with their teachers or with
other fellow classmates with the help of social media, messaging apps and chat forums.
Parents can interact as well as communicate with teachers and school authorities about
their kid’s performance in the school.
3. Effective Teaching and Learning Tool
 Teachers can teach with the use of animation, power point slides, and images to
capture the students’ attention.
4. Interaction with Digital Media
 Regular use of digital media is one of the most basic parts of our lives. Digital bulletin
boards save paper, allow displaying of videos and audios to attract the attention of
students.
5. Keeping you updated with Latest Information
 Information is the biggest advantage which the internet is offering. There is a huge
amount of information available for every subject. It keeps us up to date with the latest
information regarding the subjects in which we are interested.
6. Learning with Multimedia
 It helps the students with the learning process as it helps to simplify the knowledge.
Also, it helps to visualize what is being taught by the teachers in school.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF INTERNET ON STUDENTS AND CHILDREN

1.Work Ethic
 Children who grow up in the Internet time expect rapid gratification. They may easily get online
and look for anything they want, from the favorite music videos & TV shows to difficult
homework answers. The Internet helps them not to wait and give them immediate results with
a minimal effort. These traits will not translate to the school, where teachers expect their
students to work for the grades. Students, as a result, are often unable to understand
problems.
2.Attention Span
 Everything about the Internet is fast. Web sites streamline information and deliver it in quick
bursts, making it easy to digest and understand. Even popular video clips seldom last longer
than a minute or two, ensuring visitors don’t get bored and explore the competition that’s only a
mouse-click away. This constant supply of available entertainment has reduced the average
attention span.

3.Physical Development
 Spending hours on accessing the internet, engaging on social networks, and playing online

games can drastically inhibit the physical development of a child.

4.Lacking Creativity and Dependence
 Instead of thinking about any things you want to know by yourself, the fastest way they can do
is searching the internet or asking Google. Therefore, the ability of thinking and creation are
limited
5.Wastage of Time
 Wastage of time seems to be one of the worse negative effects of internet on children.
Obviously, if you are addicted internet, you spend a lot of time to sit in the computer than
giving time to your studies.
6.Hesitant Toward Face-to-Face Communication
 Some students do not like chatting face to face with friends. They just feel comfortable when
they at home through a computer and internet. They feel shy to make the conversation to
anybody face to face. They prefer to talk and chat in somewhere which can separate them
from the real world.
7.Bad Webs
 Spending too much time to enter black webs affects to children in mind. These films and black
webs have a significant impact to the physical and psychological condition. This is one of the
main causes affecting unhealthy lifestyle and moral corruption of a youth department.
8.Cheating
 The Internet archives the world’s knowledge. Students can find essays or test answers for any
subject imaginable. Knowing that the correct answers are readily available online can prove far
too tempting for some students, which leads to academic fraud, plagiarism, and rampant
cheating.
9.Addiction
 Online games on the internet can be addictive to teenagers, children, and adults. This can take
away your precious time that should be used for other things more productive.

The Internet plays a very important role in education. Through its help, students can easily
gather or research information that is related to their studies. Teachers can also use the internet
to supplement their lessons, and the internet can also help them to find appropriate online
materials that they can use to capture the attention of their students during discussion. The
Internet also has negative effects on education, but it still depends on the teacher or students
whether they use it properly or whether they abuse it.
