[ MUSIC ]
Impressionism
-Impressionism originally applied to a painting done by Calude Monet entitles
"Impressionism:Sunrise".It was scorned by critics of one of the old school.and the
name stuck since then and eventually applies to all other arts in the era including
music.At the start of World War 1,impressionism was also in progress.

-Piano (A musical Instrument with a manual keyboard actuating hammers that stike
wire trings,producing sounds that may be softened or sustained by means of pedals)
-Flute (A high pitched woodwind)
-Clarinet (A woodwind Instrument having a sraight cylindrical tube with a flaring
bell and single reed mouthpiece)
-Violin (A stringed instrument played with a bow, with four stringed tuned at the
intervals of the fifth,an unfretted fingerboard, and a shallower body than the
viol)
-Trumpet (A sopramo brass win instrument consisting of a long metal tube looped
ones and ending with a flared bell)
-French Horn (Is a valved brass wind instrument that produce a mellow tone from a
long narrow tube that is ciled in a circled before ending in a flaring bell)
-English horn (A double woodwind instrument similar to a but larger than oboe and
pitched lower by a fifth.)
-Harp (An instrument having an upright trianglular frame.it consist of a pillar,a
curved neck,and a holloe back conraining the sounding board)
-Celesta/Celeste (A keyboard percussion instrument composed of a set steel plates
of graduated lengththat are struck with key operated hammers.)
-Triangle (A Percussion instrument consisting of a rod of steel bent into a form of
a triangle open at one angle and sounded by striking with a small metal rod)
-Glockenspiel (A percussion instrument with a series of metal bars tuned to a
chromatic and played with two hammers)
-Cymbal (A percussion instrumnt consisting of a concave brass plate that makes a
loud chasing tone when hit with a drumstick or played with pairs)

ELECTRONIC MUSIC
- Electronic music employs the use of electronic musical instruments and technology
in the productio of the music. Any music produces and modified through any
electronic means can be categorized under electronic music.
History of Electronic music:
- Thaddeus Cahill
An American lawyer and inventor, was the first who made and effort to
produce electrical sound through his invention- The "Telharmonium" in 1895, and
introduced in 1906.

= Electronic music involves electronically produced artificial sounds or taped-


recorded natural sounds from the enviroment.
= These sounds are altered using specified tempo, sound and other elements which
are simultaneously or successivley arranged to create a complex and unique pattern.

Electronic Musical Instruments:


Phonautograph
- Is the earliest known recording device and was patented in 1857.
- Transcribe sound waves and considered as the forerunner of PHONOGRAPH.
Telharmonium
- Is also called DYNAMOPHONE, the earliest musical instrument to generate sound
electrically
- It is invented in 1897 and used rotating electromagnetic generators to
produce electric impulses that were converted into sound waves
Theremin
- Is considered as the great ancestor of electronic music which started in 1918
by Russian physicist Leon Theremin.
- It is the first electronic instrument with virtuoso performers playing solo
- The performer has no physical contact with the instrument, he literally "play
the air" around the instrument
Hammond Organ
- Is an electric organ first invented by Laurens Hammond in 1935.
- This became the basis of later models.
- It has built-in vibrato effect that provides a small variation in pitch while
a note is being played, and a chorus effect where a note's sound is combined with
another sound at a

- It is the first synthesizer and was first introduced in 1964 by Moog.
- It is a voltage-controlled machine that alloweed changers in pitch, timbre,
attack, and decay of sound for the use of musician.

LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC

Bombo
- It is a dual headed drum made from a deep tree trunk with patches made up of
calf or goat skin; it is played using two sticks.
Chajchas
- It is a rattle made up of drid hooves from sheep, ilama, or goat and is worn
with a cloth bracelet.
ZampoÑas
- It is a panpipe type of reed made from pieces of bamboo that are tied together.
Charango
- This is an istrument made from the shell of an armadillo. this is a ten string
guitar instrument.
Quena
- It is a flute made of bones or bamboo that has a vertical notched reed.
Cajon
- It is a rectangular box made of wood; it is played and used as a drum. It is
used by tapping its front part while the musician sits on it.
Maracas
- These are instruments made of gourd-like coconut shells woth beans, seeds, or
small pebbles placed inside; They are layed by shaking.
Claves
- These are a pair of hardwood sticks played by striking them together.
Guiro
- Wooden istrument with notches on which a stick rubbed to produce the sounds.
Bongos
- Cuban istrument composed of two small drums of different size.
Cencerros
- Cowbell hit with a stick

Cumbia
- A type of dance and music similar to salsa and uses instruments like
accordions , guitars and percussions.
- Is a latin American musical style that began as a courtship dance practiced
among the African Slave population.
Tango
- This is a lively and spirited dance between two people. It is a passionate kind
of dance that shows expression.
ChaCha
- This is a latin American ballroom dance with the basic pattern of three steps
with a shuffle. It has a fast rhythmic pattern.
Bossanova
- This is a style of music that was derived from samba, which is an original
Brazillian music. It gives more emphasis on percussion and melody.
Pasodoble
- It is Spain's traditional couple dance. It uses music that is traditionally
played in bull fighting.
Rumba
- Is said to be the "grandfather" of latin
- it is dubbed as the sexiest
Foxtrot
- Is a beatiful, romantic dance introduced by the entertainer Harry Fox.
- Is composed of simple walking steps and side steps.

Bossa Nova
- Is a genre of Brazilian Music which means "new trend". because popular during
the 50's and 60's.
- It's key feature is it's cool, relaxing style that tends to be light and frothy.
- It often features guitar, Vocals, and brushes instead of sticks on the drum
sets.
