A Ripple in Time

The interrelation and inter-connectednessof the past, present, and future are uncanny. We think of the past
repeatedly, aspire to future affairs but not the present. We have many regrets of the past, how things could
have been different if we changed one thing. We look at our younger selves with pity and embarrassment
because we know what we grow into, and we know we could have been better, yet we overlook the brighter
aspects ofour childhood. What we all miss, is looking at the world through the lens of a child.
We look at the present for the answers or the regrets we seek to reconcile, and we plan with enough caution
asto not make the same mistakes we did. We look at our lives as two diverged roads and a chance to redeem
our glory. We think we chose right but as traveling the road, we see that it was not what we wished for nor
what we wanted, it turns out we didn't even know what we wanted. We wish we could have travelled the road
less travelled by, to know whether it could have made the difference, but alas it’s too late to head back. We
are in a storm created by our mind, the caged prison forever to be damned by our regrets, jealousy, and
hatred. We try to escape from the wretched thing but it’s hard to accept the blame. We escape into our own
world filled with distractions to prevent us from being judged by our mind and we are fragile to accept the
criticism to our heart. We look at ourselves and listen to the wisped cries of despair, it tells what we are, the
unused potential and the person we used to be, is a distant memory that infuriates us. We blame the world for
making us this monster, we would define ourselves against everyone around us, as we see the world as a
hyper-competitive rat race competing for resources without a hint of humanity. We then realize that our story
may not have the best beginning or what we wished we ought to be, it doesn't define us, nor will it label us,
it's the rest of the story that defines us, who we choose to be. The storm had abated and looking down we see
the eye of the storm, the way out but we are too heavy to let go,our ego and pride are too valuable to be
exposed or vulnerable. We realize that it's our chance, our choice to let go of the burden but we are afraid,
scared of being vulnerable. Yet all we know is that it takes a leap of faith. We let go for the first time and We
get flashes of memories of the life we once hated. The nearing light on the other side of the storm eases our
mind and silences the despair-filled whispers of cries, it opens us to the new side of our lives we enjoyed and
never noticed. As we reach the final stretch of our descent into the bright light, we look back and find
contentment in the "meaningless life" we once hated.
